THE POSITION

The Bureau of Enforcement and Investigation (BEI) is looking for individuals to be part of a team of professional conduct investigators. BEI conducts investigations into allegations of violations of standards of conduct, laws, rules, and regulations for 29 licensing boards and commissions under the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs. The professional team of investigators assigned to the Pittsburgh Regional Office will provide services to the following counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Jefferson, Indiana, Lawrence, McKean, Mercer, Venango, Warren, Washington, Westmoreland.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position plans, coordinates, and conducts investigations into alleged violations of the standards of conduct, laws, rules, and for professional and occupational licensing. Work helps to ensure compliance, integrity, and accountability to protect all people in Pennsylvania from fraudulent and unethical practitioners in multiple professions. As a Professional Conduct Investigator 1, you will perform the following duties:


  • Investigation Processes: Determine routine courses of action needed to successfully complete assignments, work closely with supervisor and prosecuting attorneys to ensure all information is collected, and use various office equipment and software effectively
  • Field Work: Travel to sites in an assigned geographic region, conduct in-person interviews and inspections, and gather facts and evidence according to procedures; handle legal documents
  • Information Analysis: Review and evaluate all information, documents, facts, and evidence gathered; conduct research; and analyze requirements to determine elements of potential violations
  • Report Writing: Relate findings by preparing thorough, accurate, concise, and timely typed reports
  • Confidentiality Standards: Protect identities, locations, and sensitive information obtained during investigative activities
  • Teamwork Participation: Provide and participate in training, perform work for complex investigations under a lead investigator, and testify at hearings or proceedings as needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Note: This position with the Pittsburgh Regional Office travels to serve the following counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Jefferson, Indiana, Lawrence, McKean, Mercer, Venango, Warren, Washington, Westmoreland.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years as a Regulatory Enforcement Inspector (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Five years of investigative experience; or
  • One year of investigative experience and a bachelor's degree; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that included one year of investigative experience.
