Job Summary

To provide independent advanced practice provider clinical expertise to patients and their families on an on-going basis. This includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and specialty protocols (e.g. chemotherapy) as defined by standardized procedures for your specific department. This may include non-invasive or invasive procedures, surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office. Patient management decisions will be independent where appropriate after assessment of the patient and interdependent with consultation with an attending or other member of the team. PA's are expected to act as an expert resource person for health care providers including nurses, residents and other ancillary staff.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • California Licensed Physicians Assistant (PA)
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate within months of hire
  • National PA board certification in specialty aligned with the practice area
  • CITI certification within three months of hire
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
  • ACLS within three months of hire
  • Graduation with a master's degree or PhD from an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • At least one (1) year of recent clinical experience as a Physician Assistant in Hematology Oncology, Stem Cell Transplant, and/or Medical ICU
  • Ability to cope with personal stress experienced by team members, other professionals, and caretakers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Judgment skills to effectively meet the needs of patients
  • Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider

Department Overview

The Division of Malignant Hematology/Cellular Therapy & Transplantation (MH/CTT) is one of 14 divisions in the Department of Internal Medicine at UC Davis Health. MH/CTT is comprised of nine faculty, 18 APP's, and administrative, financial, and research staff. Our APP unit provides both inpatient and ambulatory clinical services, working with physician providers and Hematology Oncology fellows.

Department Specific Job Scope

The role of the APP in the Division of Malignant Hematology/Cellular Therapy and Transplant (MH/CTT) includes outpatient and inpatient care of pre- and post-stem cell transplant patients and patients with hematological malignancies. The incumbent is required to comply with FACT standards in the management of bone marrow or peripheral stem cell transplant patients. Provides pre- and post-chemotherapy education and stress support intervention. Utilizes and evaluates teaching strategies to meet individual learning needs of patients and families. Maintains training and competency to ensure compliance with FACT standards in the management of autologous and allogeneic transplant patients.

Occasional overtime may be required. Program needs require working on holidays, weekends, and evening coverage. May require coverage of additional services based on division needs.
