As a Clerical Supervisor 1 with the Department of Human Services (DHS), you will help lead office staff and maintain high-quality customer service at the Berks County Assistance Office (CAO). DESCRIPTION OF WORKThis role focuses on supervising clerical staff, organizing daily tasks, and supporting essential office operations. You will help maintain accuracy, efficiency, and clear communication within the clerical unit. As a Clerical Supervisor 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Work Planning: Plan and distribute assignments to clerical staff
- Policy Guidance: Explain procedures, demonstrate equipment use, and clarify office policies
- Document Review: Check completed work for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
- Staff Support: Provide guidance and conduct individual conferences, unit meetings, and performance reviews
- Attendance Oversight: Monitor time records and approve or disapprove leave based on operational needs
- Operational Assistance: Prepare reports and assist with equipment troubleshooting and office functions

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. This may change based on operational needs.
- Overtime and travel as needed
- Telework: This position may be eligible to telework part time, after completion of the probationary period. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Reading. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
- Work Conditions: Assigned duties are performed in a controlled office environment. In counties with district offices, employees may be reassigned to different work sites due to operational needs. Reassignments will be made in compliance with contract language.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Clerical Assistant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of moderately complex clerical experience; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
