Job Description
Step into a rewarding, contract-based role supporting high school students as a Special Education and Reading Specialist. Located near Brockton, MA, this opportunity is perfect for educators who are passionate about literacy interventions and individualized instruction. You'll be working with a vibrant group of learners, including approximately 30 students who previously received Orton-Gillingham instruction—plus a handful of incoming 8th graders joining your caseload. The assignment begins September 1st and runs through October 30th, with the potential to be extended through December.
Qualifications:
- Active DESE license in Special Education 5-12
- Completed the full, one-year Orton-Gillingham practicum
- Certification in Orton-Gillingham or Wilson Reading
- Experience working with high school aged youth preferred
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver targeted reading interventions using Orton-Gillingham or Wilson methodologies
- Provide specialized instruction to high school students with varying learning needs
- Adapt curriculum and teaching approaches for individual student success
- Monitor progress, assess outcomes, and communicate results to staff and families
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers and support staff
- Manage a caseload of approximately 30 students, with ongoing assessment and adjustment as student needs evolve
