Job Description
We are seeking a dependable and experienced Sandblaster to join an industrial facility in Houston. This position is responsible for preparing steel pipe and related materials for coating and finishing by removing paint, rust, scale, dirt, grease, and other surface contaminants using abrasive blasting equipment. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with sandblasting, abrasive blasting, blast equipment, industrial coating preparation, pipe, steel, or other heavy industrial materials and is comfortable working in a physically demanding industrial environment. Applies industrial coatings, paint, primers, and protective finishes to pipe, fittings, flanges, and other steel components. Prepares surfaces, operates painting equipment, and ensures coatings are applied evenly and meet quality and customer specifications.
Responsibilities
- Operate sandblasting and abrasive blasting equipment to prepare pipe and steel materials for coating or finishing.
- Blast exterior and interior surfaces as required to remove rust, scale, paint, dirt, grease, and other contaminants.
- Prepare steel and pipe surfaces to meet required cleanliness and coating specifications.
- Inspect blasted surfaces for proper preparation and cleanliness before coating or finishing.
- Adjust blasting equipment, pressure, abrasive flow, and nozzle position as needed to achieve consistent results.
- Handle and position pipe and other heavy materials safely during the blasting process.
- Assist with loading, unloading, staging, moving, and positioning pipe and materials as needed.
- Follow verbal instructions, hand signals, work orders, and production requirements.
- Assist with painting, stenciling, coating preparation, and other related industrial duties as assigned.
- Monitor equipment and report damaged, worn, or malfunctioning components to supervision.
- Maintain proper use and care of blasting equipment, hoses, nozzles, PPE, and other tools.
- Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
- Wear required PPE, including respiratory and protective equipment, at all times.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Assist other departments and cross-train on additional industrial operations as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
