Job Description

Position: Hand Soldering Technician.
Location: 555 S Vermont St, Palatine IL 60067.
Facility: Aimtron Corporation.
Shift Timings: 1st Shift (07.00 AM – 03.30 PM).

Position Summary:

The Hand Soldering Technician is responsible for the precision assembly and hand soldering of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) in a contract electronics manufacturing environment. This position requires extensive experience with both surface mount (SMT) and through-hole (PTH) soldering, the ability to interpret assembly documentation, and a strong commitment to workmanship that meets IPC and customer quality standards. The technician supports prototype, NPI, and production builds while ensuring high-quality, reliable assemblies.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform precision hand soldering of surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole (PTH) components, including fine-pitch devices, chip components, connectors, wiring, and mixed-technology assemblies.
Perform minor component replacement and touch-up soldering as required.
Read and interpret assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), work instructions, assembly notes, and customer documentation.
Inspect solder joints to IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 workmanship standards.
Verify proper component orientation, polarity, placement, and workmanship prior to final inspection.
Maintain ESD compliance and proper handling of electronic assemblies and sensitive components.
Ensure proper use and maintenance of soldering equipment, tips, tools, microscopes, and workstations.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company procedures and 5S principles.
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, and process efficiency.

Qualifications:

·3+ years of hand soldering experience in a PCBA contract manufacturing or electronics manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated expertise in precision hand soldering of both surface mount (SMT) and through-hole (PTH) electronic components.
Experience soldering fine-pitch and miniature electronic components.
Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 workmanship standards.
IPC J-STD-001 and/or IPC-A-610 Certification preferred.
Experience using soldering irons, hot air rework stations, microscopes, and precision hand tools.
Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, work instructions, bills of materials (BOMs), and engineering documentation.
Strong attention to detail with excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Ability to work independently while maintaining high quality and productivity standards.
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing precision soldering work.
Excellent near vision and the ability to inspect small electronic components and solder joints using magnification.
Strong manual dexterity for handling miniature electronic components and precision tools.
Ability to lift and move materials up to 25 pounds.
Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to soldering equipment, fluxes, cleaning solvents, and standard PPE requirements.
Ability to work in an ESD-controlled manufacturing environment while following all safety and quality procedures.
