Job Description

Senior Systems & Infrastructure Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a versatile Senior Systems & Infrastructure Engineer to anchor and scale the technical operations of our engineering division based in the SF Bay Area (Mid-Peninsula). In this role, you will take full ownership of the hybrid compute environment, automated deployment pipelines, telemetry stacks, and core technical support workflows that keep our product teams productive. This position demands a balance of cloud management, physical lab oversight, and proactive troubleshooting. Additionally, you will collaborate with our international DevOps team in Eastern Europe to align global infrastructure frameworks.

Core Responsibilities

Systems Administration & Hardware Operations

  • Hybrid Environment Management: Oversee on-premises lab hardware, localized Linux clusters, and cloud-hosted environments to ensure maximum uptime.
  • Configuration & Storage: Manage Linux deployments utilizing configuration-as-code utilities (SaltStack) and maintain networked storage (NFS) environments.
  • Virtualization Architecture: Deploy and optimize containerized environments (Docker) and hypervisor setups (KVM).
  • Data Protection: Design, test, and execute business continuity and automated data recovery protocols for all core systems.
  • Specialized Hardware Support: Assist with the technical maintenance and workflow integration of automated robotics testing platforms.

Build Automation & Continuous Integration

  • Pipeline Development: Design and optimize automated build and release workflows within GitHub Actions and Jenkins for firmware and system images.
  • Quality Assurance Integration: Embed automated code quality checks, static analysis (SonarScanner), and testing frameworks (Pytest) directly into release cycles.
  • Hardware-in-the-Loop: Connect physical test benches and HITL automation directly into the primary CI/CD pipelines.

Observability & Infrastructure Security

  • Telemetry Operations: Maintain and scale Grafana-driven monitoring platforms to track system health, metrics ingestion, and custom dashboarding.
  • Incident Alerting: Program proactive notifications for hardware anomalies, power delivery interruptions (UPS/battery status), and storage limitations.
  • Cloud Governance: Manage enterprise-level AWS organizations, including access control, security posture reviews, and cloud spend optimization.

Internal Technical Support & Vendor Relations

  • Engineering Helpdesk: Serve as the primary point of contact for advanced hardware, operating system, and software provisioning challenges.
  • Identity Management: Administer the provisioning lifecycle for engineering toolsets (SaaS platforms, repository access, credential managers).
  • Vendor Coordination: Partner with external managed service providers (MSPs) to drive compliance initiatives and hardware procurement.

Candidate Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years navigating hybrid IT infrastructure, systems engineering, or DevOps roles supporting highly technical teams.
  • Linux Expertise: Advanced scripting skills (Bash) alongside practical experience with infrastructure automation tools (Ansible, SaltStack, etc.).
  • Containerization: Practical familiarity hosting and configuring KVM and containerized workloads.
  • CI/CD Proficiency: Hands-on history building, troubleshooting, and maintaining automated software delivery pipelines in Jenkins or GitHub.
  • Telemetry: Experience implementing production-grade Grafana stacks for system alerting.
  • Cloud Architecture: Baseline proficiency managing cloud infrastructure at scale, specifically AWS multi-account structures.
  • Work Location: Ability to commute to our Mid-Peninsula, CA facility at least 3 days per week for physical lab and infrastructure support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Compliance & Governance: Experience handling IT compliance audits, data security regulations, and vendor relations.
  • Agility: Background working within early-stage, fast-moving technology companies or startups.

Advantageous Skills

  • Hardware Engineering Support: Past exposure to embedded systems, firmware deployment, or integrating physical robotics/test rigs into digital workflows.
  • Telecom Knowledge: Understanding of wireless communication standards, including LTE or 5G frameworks.
  • Legacy System Migration: Familiarity managing or decommissioning legacy Elasticsearch data clusters.
