Job Details

• Position: Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)
• Location: Garden City, KS
• Contract Length: 13 Weeks
• Shift: Evening Shift
• Schedule: 3×12

• Pay Rate: $32 to $35 per hour

Roles and Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and medical equipment
• Prepare surgical instrument trays, case carts, and supplies according to procedure requirements
• Operate sterilization and decontamination equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions and facility protocols
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, damage, and proper operation
• Perform and document biological, chemical, and mechanical monitoring of sterilization processes
• Ensure sterile instruments and supplies are delivered to operating rooms and procedural areas in a timely manner
• Collaborate with surgical technologists, nurses, OR staff, and other clinical departments
• Identify damaged or malfunctioning instruments and coordinate appropriate repair or replacement
• Maintain accurate instrument tracking, sterilization, and quality-control documentation
• Monitor sterile supply inventory and assist with restocking
• Support OR turnover by ensuring instruments and supplies are processed and available for scheduled procedures
• Follow infection prevention, AAMI, OSHA, HIPAA, and facility-specific safety standards
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sterile processing environment
• Participate in quality assurance and process improvement initiatives
• Respond promptly to urgent instrument and supply requests from procedural areas

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Sterile Processing Technician experience
• Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing program preferred
• CRCST certification preferred or required by facility
• CSPDT certification may be accepted depending on facility requirements
• Current BLS certification preferred or required by facility
• Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation, decontamination, sterilization, and infection prevention
• Familiarity with instrument tracking systems
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced hospital environment
• Ability to stand for extended periods and safely handle instrument trays
• Commitment to patient safety and quality standards
