Job Description
This Civil Engineer role focuses on leading and supporting the preparation of comprehensive engineering and project documents for residential and commercial site development. You will manage projects from conceptual design through final construction documents, ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders. Responsibilities- Lead and assist in the preparation of engineering and project documents, including due diligence reports, construction documents, drainage reports, specifications, and construction schedules and estimates.
- Use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and determine their impact on project planning and design.
- Research and apply jurisdictional requirements, including zoning and subdivision regulations, to inform and guide engineering design decisions.
- Develop engineering drawings from concept through final construction documents, including site layout, grading and drainage, utilities, and erosion control design using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Support zoning, ordinance, and permit assessments, and prepare cost estimates to evaluate the feasibility of projects based on collected data and analysis.
- Provide field observation services as needed to verify design assumptions, monitor construction activities, and ensure alignment with plans and specifications.
- Apply established engineering knowledge, techniques, and best practices to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective civil site designs.
- Collaborate closely with team members on project tasks and assignments to ensure coordinated, timely, and high-quality deliverables.
- Understand and apply client standards, specifications, codes of practice, and risk tolerance in all project work.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, industry, contractual, and company regulations, standards, specifications, and best practices throughout the project lifecycle.
- Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve issues, and maintain strong working relationships.
- Manage project teams, budgets, schedules, and deliverables to meet or exceed expectations and achieve successful project outcomes.
- Coordinate construction activities through completion, ensuring that design intent is maintained and issues are addressed promptly.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license in Tennessee.
- At least 10 years of experience in residential and/or commercial site design, entitlement processes, permitting, and coordinating construction activities through completion.
- Previous experience managing project teams, budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
- Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil site design and production of construction documents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, reporting, and project coordination.
- Proficiency in Blue Beam for plan review, markups, and collaboration.
- Strong understanding of industry, municipality, regulatory, and business operation standards related to civil engineering and site development.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients, team members, and external partners.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain collaborative working relationships.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate complex data and develop effective engineering solutions.

- Ability to interpret and apply zoning and subdivision regulations to project planning and design.

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple projects and deadlines.

This role operates in a professional engineering environment that combines office-based design and analysis work with occasional field observation visits. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $125000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
