Job Title: Accessioner IJob Description

The Accessioner I is responsible for accurately processing laboratory samples and ensuring that patient specimens are properly cataloged for clinical analysis. This role focuses primarily on blood specimens, with occasional handling of urine or tissue samples, and directly supports laboratory professionals who rely on these samples for diagnosis and treatment.

Responsibilities
  • Receive and triage all specimens for clinical testing, ensuring each sample is properly labeled and logged.
  • Catalog patient specimens such as blood, urine, and tissue in accordance with established laboratory protocols.
  • Manage clinical information within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) database with a high level of accuracy.
  • Perform internal audits of clinical charts to verify data integrity and compliance with laboratory standards.
  • Collaborate with various laboratory and support departments to ensure testing accuracy and timely processing of specimens.
  • Maintain organized records and documentation for all specimens and related clinical information.
  • Follow established laboratory procedures and workflows to support efficient sample processing and turnaround times.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team to meet operational deadlines and quality standards.
Essential Skills
  • 0–2 years of work experience in a laboratory, medical, or data-focused environment.
  • Proficiency in data entry with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively in a fast-paced setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • AS or BS degree in biological sciences preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory processes and handling of clinical specimens is an advantage.
  • Comfort working with blood specimens and other patient samples.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to laboratory information systems and standard operating procedures.
Work Environment

This role is based in a clinical laboratory environment with a primary focus on processing blood and other patient specimens. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 3:30 PM to 12:00 AM, requiring consistent evening work hours. The work involves regular use of laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and standard office and laboratory equipment. Team members typically wear appropriate laboratory or clinical attire in accordance with safety and hygiene protocols, and work both independently and collaboratively to support accurate and timely testing.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $19.00/hr.
