Job Description

An established Architecture and Interior Design firm, located in the heart of Chicago, is looking to add an Interior Designer/Project Manager to their team!

Job Description

The Interior Designer / Project Manager develops thoughtful interior design solutions that align with client goals while leading projects across all phases from concept through construction. This role coordinates closely with consultants and MEP teams, oversees and mentors interior design team members, and participates in client meetings to present and refine design concepts. You create plans, 3D renderings, presentation drawings, and finish boards, and you take ownership of construction documentation, including quality checking your own work and the work of others. You support the permitting and submittal processes, including addenda sketches and drawing revisions, and participate in project punch-list walk-throughs to ensure design intent is fully realized.

Responsibilities

  • Develop interior design solutions that clearly respond to client goals, functional needs, and project constraints
  • Lead and coordinate interior design projects across all phases, including schematic design, design development, construction documentation, bidding/permitting, and construction administration
  • Participate actively in coordination with consultants, including MEP and other disciplines, to ensure integrated and cohesive project delivery
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of interior design project team members, providing direction on tasks, priorities, and deadlines
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and day-to-day guidance to junior team members to support their professional growth and ensure high-quality deliverables
  • Participate in client meetings to present design concepts, review options, gather feedback, and maintain strong client relationships
  • Create detailed plans, 3D renderings, and visualizations using Revit and Enscape, assembling presentation drawings and finish boards that clearly communicate design intent
  • Lead FF&E efforts, including research, selection, and specification of furniture, fixtures, and equipment, and coordinate with FF&E dealers as needed
  • Take responsibility for producing and reviewing construction documents, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to building codes and standard construction methods
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on your own work and the work of project team members to maintain consistent standards
  • Participate in the submittal process, including preparing addenda sketches, managing drawing revisions, and responding to contractor questions
  • Assist with permitting activities, coordinating documentation and responding to agency comments as required
  • Participate in punch-list walk-throughs, documenting issues and coordinating with the project team to resolve them and close out projects successfully
  • Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously, including scheduling, allocating team hours, managing workloads, and monitoring deadlines
  • Use project management tools (such as Deltek) to track project progress, budgets, and schedules, and communicate status to stakeholders

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design from an accredited university
  • Approximately 8+ years of professional experience in architecture or interior design
  • Demonstrated experience delivering projects in K–12 education, workplace, municipal, or library sectors
  • Experience with both ground-up construction and renovation projects
  • Strong proficiency in Revit and Enscape, with the ability to produce plans, 3D models, and visualizations independently
  • Proven ability to work independently across all project phases, including schematic design, design development, construction documentation, bidding/permitting, and construction administration
  • Experience leading and managing teams and multiple projects, including scheduling, assigning workloads, managing hours, and meeting deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally approximately two times per month to project sites
