Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in school settings preferred
- Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification or equivalent credentials (EIPA, etc.)
- Ability to clearly interpret both expressive and receptive communication
- Strong understanding of confidentiality requirements in educational environments
- Collaborative attitude with teachers, staff, and families
Core Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into sign language (and vice versa) during classroom instruction, school events, and meetings
- Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Adapt interpreting strategies to meet individual student needs
- Support students' participation in both academic and extracurricular activities
- Maintain records in alignment with district and state guidelines
- Provide feedback on student progress as necessary
