Responsibilities

  • Remove rolls from the conveyor belt and stack them in an organized and safe manner.
  • Assist in lacing, starting, and stopping the machine to run material through for production.
  • Maintain correct line speed throughout the shift to support consistent production output.
  • Inspect rolls for defects, repair as needed, and stage them to be run on the machine.
  • Prepare rolls for production by retrieving them from storage, removing damaged or “busted” edges using a sheet stripper, and sanding the wheel grind as required.
  • Stage felt rolls so the machine can run smoothly and without interruption.
  • Record all required information for dry felt rolls used during the shift on a daily basis.
  • Document all paper breaks and machine downtime on the Lost Productivity Record.
  • Perform general cleaning tasks to keep the work area clean, safe, and free of debris.
  • Count, stack, and organize materials to maintain accurate inventory and efficient workflow.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and correctly as part of daily production activities.
  • Follow all safety procedures when working around running machines and forklifts.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in general labor within a manufacturing, production, construction, or roofing environment.
  • Ability to operate and assist with industrial machinery and production equipment.
  • Comfort using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Capability to perform general cleaning and housekeeping tasks in a production setting.
  • Skill in stacking, counting, and organizing materials accurately.
  • Basic record-keeping skills to document production data, breaks, and downtime.
  • Ability to work safely around running machines and forklifts in a busy manufacturing environment.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift and move rolls and materials, and work in a non-climate-controlled facility.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background in roofing materials manufacturing or related construction trades is beneficial.
  • Prior experience as a machine operator in a production environment is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with production processes, line speed monitoring, and material staging.
  • Attention to detail when inspecting materials and documenting production information.
  • Reliability and punctuality to support a structured shift schedule and production targets.

Why Work Here?

Employees benefit from a supportive manufacturing environment that offers paid holidays, comprehensive health coverage, and long-term retirement savings options. The organization values reliability, safety, and teamwork, providing structured shifts and defined breaks to support work-life balance. With Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance and a 401(k) plan available after one year of service, team members can build both financial security and a stable career path.

Work Environment

This position is based in a roofing materials manufacturing facility with running machines and active forklift traffic. The environment includes a strong asphalt smell from the product and is not climate controlled, which means it can be hot during the summer months. The typical schedule includes: Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. During a period from the end of January into February, operations shift to a Monday–Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For 12-hour shifts, employees receive two 15-minute breaks and one 30-minute lunch break. On 8-hour days, employees receive one 15-minute break and one 30-minute lunch break. Work is performed in standard manufacturing attire appropriate for an industrial environment, with required safety gear and personal protective equipment as needed.
