Job Title: Nurse Practitioner - Occupational Health/Urgent Care
Location: Lansing, MI
Pay Rate: $65.00 - $75.00 / hour
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 1st Shift (Occasional early morning flexibility required to cover end-of-3rd-shift handover)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Nurse Practitioner to lead and support clinical occupational health operations at a major manufacturing facility in Lansing, MI. In this role, you will manage day-to-day medical department objectives, oversee clinical staff, deliver direct patient care, and partner closely with plant leadership, safety, HR, and union representatives to promote workplace health and wellness.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Occupational Health Practice
Diagnose and treat occupational injuries and illnesses following Medical Director protocols, including executing simple clinical procedures.
Perform medical surveillance, medical qualification examinations, fitness-for-duty evaluations, return-to-work exams, and employee placement assessments.
Accurately document all patient assessments, treatments, and clinical data in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Support disability and Workers' Compensation management.
Department Management & Plant Operations
Oversee site Medical Department operations, staff, and budget allocation; provide clinical coverage for plant health personnel during leave or training.
Lead and manage plant First Responders and the Medical Emergency Response Team, coordinating emergency drills and medical training.
Ensure strict compliance with federal, state, and local occupational medical laws and standards (MIOSHA, HIPAA, state licensing).
Conduct medical department audits and participate in plant Safety Observation Tours, job checks, and walkthroughs.
Lead preventative health programs, including Ergonomics, Bloodborne Pathogens controls, Travel Medicine, health education, and EAP support.
Business Integration & Strategy
Act as an occupational health expert for HR, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Union reps, and manufacturing staff.
Support corporate health initiatives, policy creation, staff training, and special medical projects.
Represent the medical team at key plant leadership meetings (e.g., Safety Review Board, Disability Improvement Process, ADAPT, Hazardous Materials Control, Labor BPD).
Qualifications
Required Education & Certifications
Education: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).
Licensure: Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN / NP) license in the State of Michigan.
Certification: Board Certified Nurse Practitioner (AANP or ANCC) and active DEA registration.
Experience & Preferred Skills
Experience: 3 to 5 years of clinical practice; background in Occupational Health, Urgent Care, or Emergency Room settings strongly preferred.
Strong leadership, analytical, and strategic problem-solving abilities.
Proven track record of working effectively in cross-functional, industrial environments.
Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to lead change and motivate teams.
