Job Description
Step into a rewarding full-time contract opportunity as an American Sign Language Interpreter, supporting students and staff in a school-based setting near Ripon, WI. This in-person role offers a consistent weekly schedule of approximately 36.25 hours, providing the chance to make a daily difference in students’ educational experiences.
You’ll collaborate with teaching teams and administration, ensuring accessible communication for deaf or hard-of-hearing students. The placement—either high school, middle, or elementary—will be determined based on your unique skill set and preference, so you can work in an environment that best matches your strengths.
Desired Qualifications:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) with a solid grasp of educational interpreting practices
- Previous experience in a school environment is preferred
- Ability to adapt signing styles to accommodate various age groups and language development levels
- Professional certification in sign language interpreting (EIPA, RID, or equivalent) is strongly recommended
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate, age-appropriate interpretation between spoken English and ASL within classrooms, school events, and meetings
- Adapt communication to support individual student needs and comprehension
- Partner closely with educators, staff, and families to facilitate inclusive learning environments
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards outlined by interpreting professional bodies
- Participate in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process and provide input relating to interpreting needs
