Early Literacy Tutor for Toddler - $45/hour - Near UVA Grounds UVA faculty family seeking a thoughtful, energetic student to work one-on-one with a book-loving toddler on early reading and literacy. We are a working couple with two newborns, and one toddler who already loves books, stories, history, mythology, nature, and being read to. We're looking for someone who can complement that rich reading life with more focused early-literacy practice to help maintain his current early-reading trajectory. The ideal person genuinely loves young children and can combine warmth and playfulness with patience, structure, and consistency. This is not intended to be either generic babysitting or intense drilling. We're looking for someone who will converse and work thoughtfully with us on the best strategies for helping a very young early reader 'connect the dots,' in a way that is engaging and rewarding. We'll provide plenty of books and materials and an initial approach, but would especially value someone who enjoys thinking about how children learn and experimenting with what works. Prior experiences with toddlers, children, and tutoring/pedagogy may be helpful, but are not strictly required. Energy, enthusiasm, curiosity and love for children are. Schedule: Approximately 90 minutes per afternoon, ideally 3-5 weekdays per week, in the late afternoon, between 3:30pm and 6pm. We can accommodate some variation around a student's class schedule. Pay: $45/hour. Location: Private family home just off of Rugby Road, within easy walking distance of UVA Grounds. Start: Within the next two weeks (ideally) but we can flex to early September depending on candidates' availability, continuing through the fall semester and ideally potentially beyond. Our newborns' caregiver will be present at home during all sessions, and the children's mom (working from home from an upstairs office) will be as well for the majority.
