Precision Surface & Cylindrical Grinding Specialist

About the Role

A manufacturing company in Elk Grove Village, Illinois is seeking a precision-minded grinder who thrives on holding ultra‑tight tolerances. As a contract-to-hire team member on first shift (5:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m.), you’ll execute surface and OD/ID grinding on critical parts built to exacting customer specifications. Pay ranges from $30–$35 per hour, with one immediate opening.

A Day in the Life

You arrive early, review customer drawings, and plan your setups. You select wheels, dress accurately, and bring machines online. Throughout the shift, you:

• Set up, operate, and troubleshoot surface and OD/ID grinding equipment to meet print and GD&T requirements.
• Hold tolerances to ±0.0001 inch while achieving specified finishes and geometries.
• Run first-piece inspections, document results, and adjust processes for repeatability.
• Use precision measuring tools, gauges, inspection equipment, and digital optical metrology to verify features.
• Perform light preventive maintenance, keep your area organized, and support 5S standards.
• Adhere to safety, quality, and operating procedures at every step.
• Work on your feet and handle shop tasks safely, including standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs (reasonable accommodation available as needed).

What You’ll Bring

• 3+ years of precision grinding or close-tolerance machining experience.
• Proven ability to set up and troubleshoot grinding machines.
• Fluency in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and interpreting GD&T.
• Hands-on skill with precision measurement and quality-control instrumentation.
• Demonstrated success holding ±0.0001 inch tolerances.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and the confidence to work independently.
• High school diploma or GED.

Nice to Have

• Experience on Okamoto surface grinders.
• Background with Studer OD/ID grinders.
• Familiarity with digital optical measuring systems.
• Comfort with preventive maintenance and 5S practices.

Compensation & Details

• Hourly rate: $30–$35.
