Job Title: Preventative Maintenance Technician

Department: Maintenance

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary:

Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, adjustments, lubrication, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on production machinery, facility equipment, mechanical systems, electrical components, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and related equipment. This position supports safe and reliable equipment operation by identifying potential issues before failure, completing assigned preventative maintenance tasks, documenting work performed, and communicating equipment concerns to Maintenance leadership and production personnel.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance inspections on production machinery, equipment, mechanical systems, electrical components, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and facility support equipment.
  • Review preventative maintenance schedules, work orders, equipment history, and maintenance instructions to determine required tasks, parts, tools, and sequence of work.
  • Inspect, clean, lubricate, adjust, tighten, align, and calibrate machinery and equipment components including shafts, bearings, gears, belts, chains, guards, sensors, valves, gauges, and related parts.
  • Identify worn, damaged, loose, misaligned, or unsafe components and notify Maintenance leadership of needed repairs, replacements, or corrective actions.
  • Perform minor repairs and component replacements as needed to prevent equipment breakdowns and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Troubleshoot basic mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated equipment issues discovered during preventative maintenance activities.
  • Verify proper machine operation after preventative maintenance work is completed and communicate equipment status to supervisors, maintenance team members, and production personnel.
  • Document preventative maintenance work performed, parts used, equipment conditions, deficiencies found, and follow-up actions required in the appropriate maintenance records or work order system.
  • Assist with maintaining spare parts, tools, lubrication supplies, and preventative maintenance materials in an organized and ready-to-use condition.
  • Support lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and safe work practices while performing preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, maintenance procedures, diagrams, schematics, drawings, and verbal instructions related to preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, shop equipment, welding equipment, cutting equipment, and machine tools as needed to complete preventative maintenance work.
  • Assist Maintenance Technicians and other personnel with corrective repairs, equipment installations, rebuilds, machine moves, and improvement projects when preventative maintenance priorities allow.
  • Recommend improvements to preventative maintenance procedures, equipment reliability, safety, efficiency, and production uptime through continuous improvement and Kaizen activities.

Education and/or Experience:

One to two years of maintenance, preventative maintenance, industrial equipment, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of organization.


Mathematical skills:

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.


Reasoning ability:

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Certificate from Trade School or alternative form of certification regarding electrical, mechanical, industrial maintenance, preventative maintenance, welding, or related applications preferred.


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.
