Job Description
Position Summary
The Commercial HVAC Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for HVAC systems on commercial construction projects. Responsibilities include reviewing plans, specifications, RFPs, and other bid documents; performing detailed takeoffs; obtaining and analyzing vendor and subcontractor pricing; calculating material and labor costs; and preparing complete proposals. The estimator works closely with project managers, to ensure that HVAC projects are bid accurately and competitively, while maintaining the quality and efficiency of the work.
Qualifications
· Minimum 7 years of estimation experience, with thorough working knowledge of HVAC systems, including hydronic and refrigeration piping systems, equipment, design and installation
· Requires strong verbal and written communication skills, effective organizational, troubleshooting and problem solving skills with the ability to set-up, automate and track data and information
· Ability to self-initiate activities, coordinate tasks and manage projects with strong attention to detail and follow-up
· Requires strong customer service, excellent people skills and the ability to build and maintain supportive working relationships
· Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively, flexibly and responsively while working with competing priorities and deadlines
· Excellent computer skills with Sage and MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) and the ability to create and maintain spreadsheets and create reports
Specific Duties – include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Reviews RFPs, plans, specifications, and addenda to determine project scope and constructability.
· Performs HVAC takeoffs and prepares estimates, quotes, and proposals.
· Calculates material, equipment, labor, and subcontractor costs.
· Solicits and analyzes vendor and subcontractor quotes and identifies scope gaps and exclusions.
· Prepares complete proposals, including scope, exclusions, qualifications, and alternates.
· Prepares project budgets and estimating reports.
· Attends pre-bid meetings and site walks as required.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
