Job Title: Pharmacy Technician - Sterile Compounding
Location: Mendota Heights, MN, 55120
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician - Sterile Compounding to support pharmacists in the preparation and compounding of sterile and non-sterile medications. This role is responsible for maintaining product sterility and integrity, accurately documenting compounding activities, adhering to regulatory requirements, and ensuring a safe and compliant pharmacy environment. The ideal candidate will possess sterile compounding experience, strong customer service skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare setting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists with measuring, weighing, mixing, and preparing ingredients for compounded medications while maintaining sterility and product integrity.
  • Prepare compounded medications including creams, ointments, capsules, and sterile preparations following established procedures and quality standards.
  • Follow comprehensive labeling procedures to ensure medication accuracy and compliance.
  • Accurately document compounding processes, measurements, calculations, batch records, and any deviations or incidents.
  • Operate and maintain compounding equipment including scales, mixers, ointment mills, homogenizers, and related technology.
  • Perform visual inspections of compounded products to identify contamination, inconsistencies, or abnormalities.
  • Support routine cleaning and maintenance activities to maintain a safe, sterile, and compliant workspace.
  • Coordinate with pharmacy staff regarding cleaning protocols and quality control procedures.
  • Organize and maintain compounding documentation and records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage waste disposal procedures by properly segregating hazardous, non-hazardous, and recyclable materials.
  • Participate in ongoing training, seminars, and professional development related to pharmacy compounding practices and emerging technologies.
  • Provide administrative and operational support within the pharmacy department as needed.
  • Deliver excellent customer service through effective verbal and written communication.


Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Active, unrestricted Pharmacy Technician License in the State of Minnesota.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of Pharmacy Technician experience, preferably in sterile compounding.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a customer service environment, preferably within healthcare, pharmacy, social services, or a high-volume call center setting.
  • Knowledge of sterile compounding procedures and aseptic techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a pharmacy team.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT) certification.
  • Experience working in a compounding pharmacy environment.
  • Knowledge of USP standards and pharmacy regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with pharmacy documentation and quality assurance processes.
