Position Summary

The Lead A&P Mechanic manages contract and direct-hire Maintenance Technicians and oversees aircraft assigned to the Heavy Maintenance Facility, ensuring all work is performed safely, on schedule, and in full compliance with Company policies, MAC Operations Specifications, and applicable Federal Aviation Regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promotes safety throughout the organization and demonstrates a daily commitment to continuous safety improvement.
  • Ensures Company aircraft are properly certified and maintained in accordance with Company policies, MAC OpSpecs, and applicable CFRs.
  • Approves technicians' timecards, completes annual evaluations, and manages/audits heavy maintenance regular and overtime hours.
  • Performs risk assessments based on audit findings using the Risk Matrix Process; evaluates and recommends changes to inspection and maintenance procedures.
  • Recommends RII inspection authority to qualified maintenance personnel and assures compliance with the Shelf-Life and Tool Calibration Programs.
  • Ensures contractors performing work on MAC aircraft or appliances comply with applicable CFRs and Company policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates recurrent and personnel training requirements with the Manager of Maintenance Training.
  • Directs the maintenance, repair, overhaul, and modification of aircraft components in accordance with OEM maintenance manuals.
  • Serves as point of contact for the heavy maintenance facility and technicians and assists the FAA with audits of aircraft and hangar operations.
  • Monitors deferred maintenance and carry-over items for compliance with OpSpecs and MEL time requirements.
  • Determines manpower and equipment requirements and drives continuous improvement to reduce costs and improve reliability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Valid FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate, in good standing, required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in heavy maintenance management.
  • Strong working knowledge of FAA regulations, OpSpecs, and Company maintenance manuals.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to supervise and develop direct and contract maintenance technicians.
  • Ability to travel to offsite locations and be available by phone during off-duty hours.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.

  • FAA Certificate Contingency: This position requires holding and maintaining a valid FAA A&P certificate in good standing at all times. Any suspension, revocation, or lapse of this certificate may result in termination of employment.

As required by 49 CFR Part 40 and applicable FAA regulations, candidates and employees are subject to pre-employment, random, reasonable-suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing under MAC's FAA-approved anti-drug and alcohol misuse prevention program.
  • Background Check: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of criminal background check.
  • Work Authorization / Form I-9: All new hires must provide documentation establishing identity and authorization to work in the United States, as required by federal law (Form I-9).
  • E-Verify Participation: MAC participates in the E-Verify program. Upon hire, MAC will provide the Social Security Administration and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization.
