Job Title: Press Brake Operator / Mazak CNC Machinist

Job Description

This role focuses on operating Mazak mills and lathes, press brakes, and other CNC equipment in a manufacturing machine shop to produce precision parts and tools from metal, plastic, and other materials. You will set up and run Mazak machines using Mazatrol programming, perform fabrication and assembly tasks, and contribute to building high‑quality water intake screen components in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate Mazak mills, lathes, and press brakes to manufacture precision parts and tools from metal, plastic, and other materials.
• Set up CNC machine tools, including Mazak equipment, for efficient and accurate production in a fast-paced work environment.
• Use Mazatrol programming to configure, adjust, and optimize machining operations.
• Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure parts meet required specifications and tolerances.
• Measure and inspect parts using tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and other machine shop tools to verify quality and accuracy.
• Perform fabrication tasks as needed to support production of water intake screens and related components.
• Complete assembly and mechanical tasks in addition to machining to support end-to-end production processes.
• Monitor machines during operation, make adjustments as necessary, and troubleshoot basic machining issues to maintain productivity and quality.
• Apply basic welding knowledge when needed to support fabrication and assembly activities.
• Use computer programs such as Microsoft Office, CAD, and/or CAM software to support programming, documentation, and production planning.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe machine shop work area and follow all safety procedures.
• Collaborate with team members, communicate clearly with supervisors and peers, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Demonstrate a proactive, growth-oriented attitude and take initiative to learn new equipment, processes, and technologies.

Essential Skills

• At least 5 years of machining experience (or strong demonstrated ability with slightly less experience combined with exceptional attitude and ambition).
• Hands-on experience with Mazak machines, including Mazak mills and lathes.
• Proficiency with Mazatrol programming for CNC machining operations.
• Experience setting up and operating CNC machine tools in a fast-paced production environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
• Skilled in using machine shop measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and micrometers.
• Experience operating press brakes and working in fabrication environments.
• Capability to perform assembly and mechanical tasks in addition to machining responsibilities.
• Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing machine shop environment and meet production deadlines.
• Positive attitude, sharp attention to detail, and a strong desire to learn and grow.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working specifically with MAZAK mills and MAZAC lathes.
• Knowledge of Mazatrol programming beyond basic operation, including setup and optimization of machining processes.
• Background in fabrication and general machine shop practices.
• Welding knowledge or experience is a plus.
• Experience with CAD and/or CAM software to support design and programming tasks.
• Comfort working with various materials, including metals and plastics.
• Demonstrated ambition, reliability, and willingness to take on new responsibilities in a growing team.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing facility that produces water intake screens and related components in a machine shop setting. The shop is not temperature regulated, so conditions vary with the seasons and require comfort working in a traditional industrial environment. Work involves regular use of Mazak mills and lathes, press brakes, Mazatrol programming interfaces, measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers, and standard fabrication and assembly equipment. The current schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Dress typically aligns with standard manufacturing and shop attire, suitable for hands-on work around machinery and fabrication equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Zachary, LA.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
