We are a busy pediatric ophthalmology practice seeking a dependable, motivated Ophthalmic Technician to join our Miami team. This position is primarily clinical/technician-focused, with occasional front-office support as needed in our small, team-oriented practice.
Primary Responsibilities
● Work up pediatric ophthalmology patients efficiently and accurately
● Obtain patient histories and document medications and relevant medical information
● Perform visual acuity testing and age-appropriate pediatric vision assessments
● Assist physicians during examinations and procedures
● Perform ophthalmic diagnostic testing as trained
● Prepare exam rooms and maintain appropriate clinical supplies
● Accurately document information in the electronic medical record (EHR)
● Assist with patient flow and help keep the physician schedule running efficiently
● Communicate professionally and compassionately with children, parents, and caregivers
● Follow established clinical protocols and practice procedures
Front Office Support
Because we are a small practice, all team members work together when needed. The technician may occasionally assist with:
● Answering phones
● Scheduling or rescheduling appointments
● Patient check-in/check-out
● Insurance verification
● Other basic administrative duties during downtime or as coverage is needed
Qualifications
● Previous ophthalmic technician or ophthalmology experience preferred
● Pediatric ophthalmology experience is a plus, but not required
● Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
● Comfortable working with children of all ages
● Strong computer and EHR skills
● Dependable, punctual, organized, and able to multitask
● Able to work independently and take initiative
● Professional, positive, and team-oriented
● Willing to cross-train and assist in different areas of the practice when needed
Certification is not required. We are willing to train the right candidate who has a strong work ethic, learns quickly, and is interested in growing within ophthalmology.
