SHD Composites is seeking a Quality Technician to join our growing advanced-materials manufacturing operation in Mooresville, NC. This hands-on position supports inspection, testing, documentation, and quality-control activities throughout the manufacturing process. You will work closely with Quality, Production, Engineering, and Operations to ensure products meet SHD standards, customer requirements, and applicable specifications.
We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, dependable, comfortable on a manufacturing floor, and willing to speak up when something does not look right.
What You Will Do- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of materials and products.
- Inspect products against specifications, procedures, work instructions, and customer requirements.
- Use appropriate measuring and inspection equipment to verify product conformance.
- Accurately document inspection and test results and maintain required quality and traceability records.
- Review production travelers, work orders, inspection records, certificates, and other manufacturing documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Identify, document, segregate, and communicate nonconforming materials or processes.
- Assist with nonconformance reports (NCRs), corrective actions, root-cause investigations, and follow-up activities.
- Support Quality and Production personnel in resolving manufacturing and product-quality issues.
- Verify inspection and measuring equipment is within calibration requirements and help maintain calibration records.
- Support first-article, process, and product inspections as required.
- Assist with document control and internal, customer, and certification audits.
- Support compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, customer requirements, and SHD quality procedures.
- Participate in continuous-improvement activities focused on reducing defects, scrap, rework, and recurring quality issues.
- Follow all company safety, quality, security, and housekeeping requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in manufacturing, quality inspection, quality assurance, production, laboratory testing, or a related technical environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to read and follow specifications, procedures, work instructions, and technical documentation.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and electronic business systems.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to identify and appropriately escalate quality concerns.
- 2+ years of quality inspection or quality-control experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in aerospace, composites, automotive, chemical, or another regulated manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar quality-management systems.
- Experience using calipers, micrometers, gauges, scales, or other inspection and measurement equipment.
- Experience with NCRs, corrective actions, root-cause analysis, calibration, manufacturing travelers, work orders, specifications, or certificates of conformance.
- Experience with ERP/MRP or electronic quality-management systems and basic continuous-improvement techniques.
- You take ownership of quality and follow issues through to resolution.
- You maintain accurate and complete documentation.
- You work effectively with both production employees and management.
- You recognize potential quality problems before they become larger issues.
- You understand that quality is a shared responsibility across the organization.
- You are comfortable working in a growing and evolving manufacturing environment.
$23.00 - $29.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Candidates with direct aerospace/composites manufacturing, AS9100, quality inspection, measurement equipment, calibration, NCR/corrective-action, or other relevant regulated-manufacturing experience may be considered toward the higher end of the range.
Physical & Work RequirementsThe position requires work in office and manufacturing environments, including computer work, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and handling materials, samples, inspection equipment, and production documentation. The role may involve normal manufacturing noise, moving equipment, temperature variations, chemicals, and regulated materials. Required PPE must be worn.
