Overview
The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist is responsible for providing quality care in a Cath Lab environment. This role involves performing interventional procedures using ionizing radiation, ensuring patient safety, and adhering to radiation protection standards under physician direction.
Responsibilities
- Assist physicians in all aspects of invasive procedures, including scrubbing, circulating, monitoring, and recording hemodynamic parameters in accordance with policy and procedure.
- Support diagnostic interventional procedures and operate appropriate interventional equipment/devices.
- Address physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations to ensure safety and comfort. Provide explanation of procedures to alleviate patient anxieties.
- Transfer patients onto medical equipment, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
- Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity.
- Set up sterile trays, and manage cleaning and disposal after procedures.
- Participate in professional growth and development activities.
- Assist with the administration of contrast media.
- Maintain inventory for the department.
- Manage all aspects of the Electrophysiology (EP) program where applicable.
- Stay updated on new developments in EP.
- Conduct preventative maintenance of interventional equipment, ensuring readiness and good order.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Training
Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist II (RCIS)- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Meet at least one of the following qualifications:
- Associate's degree or higher in Cardiovascular Technology

Minimum of 3 years of recent experience as a Cardiovascular Tech in a Cardiac Cath Lab

Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Intra-aortic Balloon Pump Course (IABP)
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist Certification (RCIS)
- Five years of recent experience in Cardiovascular EP, or any two of the following:
- Cardiac Interventional certification (CI)
- Vascular Interventional certification (VI)

Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Intra-aortic Balloon Pump Course (IABP)
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- High school graduate or GED.
- Minimum of two years post-technical school radiology experience, or six months of recent experience as a Special Procedures Technologist.
- Graduate of a JRCERT accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
- Registered by the ARRT and licensed by the State of Massachusetts as a Radiologic Technologist.

Successful passage of Basic Arrhythmia Challenge Exam or Basic Arrhythmia course within 12 months of position acceptance.

- All qualifications of Tech 1.
