Catheterization Laboratory Technologist II Summary:

The Catheterization Laboratory Technologist II is a seasoned member of the catheterization lab team, skilled in assisting with a diverse range of diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. This role entails careful preparation of the lab, as well as managing equipment and supplies, ensuring meticulous patient documentation, and maintaining a strict sterile technique throughout procedures. The Technologist II also acts as a resource and mentor for junior technicians and technologists, sharing knowledge in advanced techniques and technologies while upholding high standards of patient safety and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:
  • Meets expectations of the relevant competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Promotes principles of holistic care and respect for human life.
  • Ensures major equipment is operational in assigned areas and documents for quality control; addresses issues through appropriate channels.
  • Participates in daily room checks and replenishes supplies as needed.
  • Accesses patient schedules and necessary information for assigned procedures.
  • Ensures all procedures are adequately equipped with necessary supplies and properly configured rooms.
  • Collaborates with the procedure team to deliver appropriate patient care and maintain departmental efficiency.
  • Records patient information in cath lab computer and imaging systems accurately.
  • Documents procedures, hemodynamic measurements, and ECG readings during procedures.
  • Secures and positions patients safely on the procedure table based on procedure type.
  • Trains and certifies staff to set up and operate cath lab equipment.
  • Supports and anticipates the needs of physicians during procedures while ensuring patient safety.
  • Maintains aseptic technique rigorously during procedures and acts immediately upon identifying breaches.
  • Adheres to policies related to patient safety, privacy, infection control, and communication.
  • Engages with team members to share knowledge and facilitate teamwork.
  • Assists with patient transport as necessary.
  • Maintains proficiency in access site management.
  • Acts as a radiation safety representative during imaging procedures.
  • Complies with attendance policies and productivity standards.
  • Supports departmental commitment to safety and customer service.
  • Follows the established dress code and professional standards.
  • Upholds the organization's mission and values.
  • Supports unit-based councils and process improvement initiatives.
  • Acts as a mentor to junior staff and serves as a resource for advanced procedures and technology.
Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

  • Associate’s degree in cardiovascular technology, radiologic technology, or a healthcare-related field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Diagnostic, Interventional Radiology, or Cath/EP Lab required.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA only).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required (AHA only).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required for independent work at pediatric facilities (AHA only).
  • One of the following certifications required:
    • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) by CCI
    • Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) by CCI
    • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by CCI
    • Radiography (R) by ARRT
    • Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI) by ARRT
    • Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV) by ARRT
    • Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI) by ARRT
    • Abdomen (AB) RDMS by ARDMS
    • Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) RDMS by ARDMS
    • Adult Echocardiography (AE) RDCS by ARDMS
    • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT
