Furniture Service Technician Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Furniture Service Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for providing professional on-site furniture repair, inspection, assembly, adjustment, and warranty service at residential and commercial locations.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of professional experience working with furniture, with a background in furniture repair, furniture installation, woodworking, cabinetry, upholstery, or a related skilled trade. You should have strong mechanical aptitude, excellent troubleshooting skills, and hands-on experience working with a variety of furniture materials, components, and mechanisms.

In this role, you will travel within an assigned service area to diagnose and repair furniture issues while providing exceptional customer service. You must be comfortable using hand tools, power tools, repair equipment, and electronic work-order systems and have the ability to safely move and handle large and heavy furniture.

Furniture Service Technician Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspect furniture to identify damage, defects, wear, and mechanical issues
• Diagnose and troubleshoot furniture problems involving wood furniture, upholstery, leather, fabric, recliners, motion furniture, and case goods
• Perform warranty and non-warranty furniture repairs according to company and manufacturer specifications
• Repair, replace, and adjust furniture components, hardware, mechanisms, cushions, fabric, leather, and wood parts
• Perform furniture assembly, disassembly, installation, adjustment, and leveling
• Complete furniture touch-ups, including wood finishing, color matching, scratch repair, and surface restoration
• Perform minor upholstery and fabric repairs as needed
• Repair and adjust reclining mechanisms, motion furniture, hardware, and mechanical components
• Use hand tools, power tools, measuring tools, and specialized repair equipment
• Inspect completed repairs to ensure quality, functionality, and customer satisfaction
• Complete electronic work orders, service reports, inspection documentation, and photographs
• Explain repair procedures, product care, and service expectations to customers
• Provide professional and courteous customer service during residential and commercial service calls
• Coordinate with dispatch, customer service, warehouse personnel, manufacturers, and parts departments
• Track and maintain repair parts, tools, equipment, and supplies in the company service vehicle
• Operate and maintain a company vehicle safely and professionally
• Follow company safety policies, manufacturer specifications, and applicable OSHA requirements
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Represent the company professionally at every customer location

Furniture Service Technician Requirements and Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certificate
• 2+ years of professional furniture repair, furniture service, furniture installation, woodworking, cabinetry, upholstery, or related hands-on experience required
• Strong preference for candidates with a direct furniture industry background
• Experience repairing and servicing residential or commercial furniture preferred
• Knowledge of furniture construction, materials, hardware, components, and mechanical systems
• Experience with recliners, motion furniture, case goods, wood furniture, upholstered furniture, leather, and fabric
• Knowledge of furniture repair, restoration, touch-up, finishing, and color matching techniques
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Proficiency with hand tools and power tools
• Ability to read and follow repair instructions, work orders, manufacturer specifications, and service documentation
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple service appointments
• Basic computer, smartphone, tablet, or mobile device proficiency
• Ability to complete electronic work orders and service documentation
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to travel throughout an assigned service area
• Reliable, professional, and dependable work ethic

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Ability to safely lift, lower, push, pull, carry, and maneuver furniture weighing up to and exceeding 100 pounds
• Ability to repeatedly bend, kneel, stoop, reach, squat, and work in various positions
• Ability to move furniture to access areas requiring inspection or repair
• Ability to work in residential homes, commercial locations, warehouses, and outdoor environments
• Ability to work in varying environmental and weather conditions
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and repair equipment
• Ability to maintain a safe work environment while working around customers and other personnel
