Position Overview
McGough is seeking project management professionals to support our National Travel - Advanced Technology team delivering complex data center and mission-critical projects across the country.
This is a multi-level requisition for Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, and Senior Project Manager opportunities. The appropriate level will be determined during the interview process based on experience, qualifications, demonstrated capabilities, and project needs, and will be disclosed at the time of offer.
Depending on level, this role will support, manage, or lead projects from pursuit and preconstruction through construction, commissioning, closeout, and turnover. Responsibilities increase in scope, independence, and leadership by level-from managing portions of a project to overall responsibility for large and/or multiple complex projects.
All levels are responsible for building strong relationships with owners, design partners, subcontractors, commissioning partners, and suppliers while supporting McGough's commitment to safety, quality, operational excellence, and the McGough Way.
Qualifications
Required
Assistant Project Manager
- Construction Management or related degree
- 2+ years of related construction experience
- Experience with estimating and self-perform construction
Project Manager
- Four-year degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- 5+ years of related construction experience
- Experience with estimating, scheduling, and self-perform construction
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with owners, design teams, and subcontractors
Senior Project Manager
- Four-year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of relevant construction experience, including mission-critical, industrial, data center, or large-scale commercial construction
- Experience leading large, complex projects and project teams
- Strong knowledge of project financials, scheduling, self-perform construction, and MEP-intensive scopes
All Levels
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Highly organized, thorough, and detail-oriented
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and applicable project management platforms
Preferred
- Data center or mission-critical construction experience
- Field and self-perform experience
- CPM scheduling, pull planning, and/or Last Planner experience
- MEP and long-lead equipment coordination
- Commissioning, integrated testing, and turnover experience
Office & Travel
This position supports McGough's National Travel - Advanced Technology business and may be assigned to projects throughout the United States with your desired location taken into consideration. Current and upcoming projects in ND, TX and NC.
Travel: Overnight and extended travel is required based on project location and business needs. Project assignments and work locations may change as projects are completed.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Responsibilities will vary by position level, with increasing ownership, independence, decision-making authority, project complexity, and leadership expectations.
Preconstruction, Estimating & Procurement
- Support or lead project pursuits, RFQs/RFPs, interviews, preconstruction meetings, and client presentations
- Perform or oversee quantity takeoffs, estimating, budgeting, constructability reviews, and cost modeling
- Support development of project scopes, bidder lists, bid analysis, subcontractor selection, and contract awards
- Participate in or lead design and QA/QC page-turn reviews
- Develop procurement strategies for long-lead materials and equipment
- Support planning and estimating of McGough self-perform work
Scheduling & Planning
- Develop, maintain, and manage project schedules appropriate to position level
- Participate in or lead CPM scheduling, Last Planner, pull planning, and weekly work planning
- Coordinate construction sequencing, procurement, MEP activities, energization, commissioning, and turnover milestones
- Identify schedule risks and work with project teams to maintain critical project milestones
Project Execution & Controls
- Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and project requirements
- Manage RFIs, submittals, BIM coordination, and other project documentation
- Manage subcontractor scopes, change requests, invoices, performance, and pre-installation activities
- Manage project changes, labor costs, material procurement, cost coding, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Prepare and maintain Project Assessments, cost-control documentation, pay applications, and required billing documents
- Monitor project scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk and communicate project status to internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain strong working relationships with owners, design teams, subcontractors, commissioning partners, and suppliers
Project & Team Leadership
- Coordinate and lead project meetings appropriate to position level
- Partner closely with field leadership to drive successful project execution
- Mentor and develop Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, Project Managers, and other team members as appropriate
- Support project staffing, resource planning, and team development
- Promote accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and the McGough Way
Safety, Quality & Closeout
- Promote and enforce McGough safety and quality standards
- Participate in safety audits, QA/QC activities, and regular jobsite walks
- Manage or support punchlist, as-built documentation, owner training, and project closeout
- Participate in commissioning, integrated testing, and turnover activities as required
- Capture cost history, benchmarking, and lessons learned to improve future project delivery
Other Responsibilities
- Participate in business development activities, client engagements, industry events, and company meetings
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, design partners, consultants, subcontractors, and industry partners
- Participate in professional development and company-sponsored activities
- Support standard work, Operational Excellence initiatives, and the McGough Way
- Perform other project management responsibilities as needed to support project success
