Position Summary


The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides direct speech-language services to preschool and school-aged children with developmental diagnoses, including assessment, treatment, program planning and implementation, documentation, and communication with families and interdisciplinary team members. The SLP provides services to support students’ functional communication and participation across environments.

Education


  • Master’s degree in communication sciences and Disorders from an ASHA-accredited university
  • Current Florida Speech-Language Pathology license and/or certification as required. 
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP). 
Experience


  • Minimum of one year of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist. 
  • Experience providing speech-language services to preschool and school-aged children with developmental diagnoses preferred. 
  • Experience or interest in supporting children who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
  • Experience working with children on the autism spectrum preferred. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members. 
  • Working knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
Required Credentials


  • Valid driver’s license. 
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA. 
  • Current Department of Health Speech-Language Pathology License from the State of Florida. 
  • Florida Medicaid provider number and National Provider Identifier (NPI) number preferred. 
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred; training may be provided to obtain certification. 
  • All employees must successfully pass a background screening and drug test as a condition of employment. 
Responsibilities


  • Conduct screenings and obtain necessary data to determine the need for intervention, treatment planning, and implementation. 
  • Serve as a liaison among clients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to conduct specialized evaluations, interpret and communicate evaluation findings, establish client schedules, and coordinate treatment plans. 
  • Monitor clients’ responses to intervention and modify treatment as indicated to achieve goals in accordance with physician orders. 
  • Develop appropriate home and community programming to maintain and enhance clients’ performance in their natural environments. 
  • Document results of client assessments, treatment, follow-up, and termination of services. Participate in discharge planning. 
  • Collaborate with instructional staff on communication interventions and modify classroom environments to meet students’ communication needs. 
  • Provide training and support on visual support strategies for use in classroom environments. 
  • Provide training and support in the use of low-tech and high-tech communication systems. 
  • Review the quality and appropriateness of services delivered and individual speech-language therapy programs to promote effectiveness and efficiency using established criteria. 
Physical Demands


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching throughout the day. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
