About this job

The purpose of this position is to help maintain the cleanliness and appearance of non-occupied building spaces operated and maintained by the Production Division including, but not limited to, chemical feed rooms, residuals control buildings, pump rooms, filter galleries, and pipe galleries.  The Industrial Cleaning Technician assists with cleaning basins and reservoirs as needed.  The Industrial Cleaning Technician follows the general operating procedures of a water treatment facility, including Chemical feed systems, chemical inventory and receipt, and membrane filter maintenance.

 

The pay range for the Industrial Cleaning Technician position starts at $20.16/hr to $30.24/hr. Compensation for the selected candidate will depend on candidate qualifications and experience as related to the position requirements. 

 

The schedule for this role is Tuesday-Friday 6:00am - 4:30pm.

 

Essential Functions

  • Performs daily cleaning of chemical feed rooms, pump rooms, filter galleries, hallways, and stairwells.  Tasks include, but are not limited to, vacuuming, and wiping the dirt from walls, equipment, and piping; removing limescale from surfaces; cleaning up minor spills of water treatment chemicals; cleaning light fixtures, ceilings, and windows; and cleaning chemical feeder equipment and fixtures.

  • Assists other members of the Support Shift team in cleaning basins, reservoirs, and other water treatment structures.

  • Cleans other unoccupied spaces as necessary.

  • Notes and reports to the supervisor in a timely manner any equipment, operations, or maintenance problems that appear to be creating excessive need for industrial cleaning.

  • Performs all duties pertaining to hazardous waste operations in accordance with all applicable requirements.

  • Supports Service Functions:

    • Inventory, order, and receive treatment chemicals.

    • Maintains and cleans basins and configure valving for operations.

    • Maintains and troubleshoots Wolcott membrane racks.

    • Works with Engineering on various projects, including meter testing and isolating equipment for contractors.

    • Configures all plant valves, including the valve exercise program.

Required Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Experience working in an industrial environment.

  • Experience with or ability to learn how to properly use various industrial cleaning equipment, chemicals, and techniques.  These include but are not limited to, high-pressure hoses, power washers, industrial vacuums, floor scrubbers, submersible pumps, wire brushes, scrapers, and a variety of cleaning chemicals.

  • Experience with or have the ability to learn and apply all applicable requirements pertaining to hazardous waste operations.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to follow oral and written work instructions and standard operating procedures.

  • Ability to read and comprehend technical and operating manuals for industrial cleaning equipment and processes.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.

  • Follow all applicable safety requirements including but not limited to the use of hazardous materials, use of energized equipment, personal protective equipment, and use of ladders and working on elevated platforms.

  • Mechanical operating abilities & basic plumbing skills.

  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background verification in accordance with WaterOne standards. (may not apply to current employees).

 

Preferred Qualifications                        

  • Experience in industrial cleaning work.

  • Class I Operations License

  • Water Treatment Principles and Practices – Knowledge of and the ability to explain water distribution and treatment systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.

An employee in this position may lift or move up to 5 lbs. constantly, 10lbs frequently, 20lbs occasionally; and 40 lbs. rarely. Employees in this position may frequently work in outdoor weather conditions.  Outside working conditions are dependent on the weather, which involves extreme heat (above 90 degrees) in the summer and cold in the winter (below freezing).  Some work may be in non-heated and non-air-conditioned structures frequently.  Employees in this position may frequently perform field assignments in poor weather and driving conditions and deal with other hazards of field work such as occasionally working at varying heights up to 15 feet above the floor and occasionally tolerate noise levels that are generally minimal but may be excessive for brief periods of time (hearing protection is provided).

 

This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary, standing and/or sitting position for up to several hours a day.  Employees must be able to position him/herself to help install, inspect, remove, or repair various items, and position themselves to stoop, kneel, or crouch, move through elevators, stairways, ramps and rough terrain, and move from one location to another.  Employees must be able to ascend and descend ladders to work on equipment, including climbing water towers and other structures, and tolerate operating vibrating equipment frequently. . Employees are required to use personal protective equipment and navigate construction sites and must be able to wear and use air purifying and air supplied respiratory protection. Employees in this position must also possess specific vision abilities required for this job including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, ability to distinguish colors, and ability to adjust focus.

Necessary personal protective equipment and tools are provided to perform job duties effectively and safely and must be used when required.
