What a day looks like

You’ll move from concept to constructability as you analyze loads, size members, and translate ideas into clear drawings and models. Your morning might begin with hand checks of beams and footings, continue with 3D modeling in Revit, and wrap up by crafting a calculation package and answering contractor questions so work in the field stays on track.

In this role, you will
  • Perform structural analysis and size structural components for safety and serviceability.
  • Prepare and organize design calculation reports for internal and external review.
  • Develop and refine structural drawings using Revit or AutoCAD; produce 3D models in Revit.
  • Review contractor submittals for alignment with structural drawings and specifications.
  • Respond to RFIs with code-compliant, constructible guidance.
  • Support your supervising engineer and take on additional assignments as needed.
Tools, codes, and methods you’ll use
  • First-principles hand calculations of basic structural systems and components.
  • MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and coordination.
  • Industry standards and codes: AISC (steel), ACI (concrete), ASCE 7, and IBC.
  • CAD/BIM platforms: Revit and AutoCAD for drawings and models.
What you bring
  • Team mindset with strong written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail.
  • Comfort developing structural drawings and coordinating across disciplines.
Preferred experience
  • Confident reading construction documents: drawings, specifications, submittals, schedules, and sketches.
  • Design and analysis of steel structures/components per AISC.
  • Design and analysis of reinforced concrete foundations/components per ACI.
  • Production of structural drawings in AutoCAD.
Education and experience
  • BS in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis) or BS in Mechanical Engineering (finite element emphasis).
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience with a bachelor’s or 2 years with a master’s.
  • PE license preferred; ability to obtain PE within 6–9 months.
