JOB DUTIES:
We are looking for a hands-on manufacturing engineering professional who can work both on the production floor and in an engineering environment. This position will work directly with Other Engineers, Maintenance, Production and Quality teams to troubleshoot equipment and manufacturing issues, implement new equipment, improve existing processes and assist with the design and development of fixtures, tooling and other manufacturing solutions.
This is not a position that is limited to project management or engineering design. The successful candidate will be expected to spend significant time on the manufacturing floor, working directly with equipment and production personnel, troubleshooting problems and helping implement solutions.
The position will play an important role in bringing new equipment into the facility, including assisting with installation, setup, integration, startup, troubleshooting and implementation into production. The individual will also assist in the design, development and improvement of fixtures, tooling, equipment and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Report directly to the Engineering Manager.
- Provide hands-on engineering and technical support to manufacturing operations.
- Assist with the implementation, installation, setup and startup of new manufacturing equipment.
- Work with Engineering, Maintenance and Production to integrate new equipment into existing manufacturing processes.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and controls-related issues.
- Work directly on the production floor to identify the root cause of equipment and process problems and develop practical solutions.
- Assist Maintenance with difficult or recurring equipment issues.
- Design, develop and modify fixtures, tooling, machine components and other manufacturing aids.
- Create and modify 3D models, drawings and other engineering documentation.
- Assist with the development and improvement of manufacturing processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, safety and equipment reliability.
- Work with Production and Maintenance to implement process and equipment improvements.
- Assist with new product development and the transition of new products and processes into production.
- Help evaluate, modify and improve existing machinery and manufacturing systems.
- Assist with PLC and controls troubleshooting and programming when applicable.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams.
- Work with outside vendors and contractors during equipment installation, modifications and troubleshooting.
- Develop work instructions and documentation for equipment, processes, fixtures and tooling.
- Investigate recurring production problems and develop permanent corrective actions.
- Support Engineering projects from concept and design through installation, testing and implementation.
- Work independently when assigned projects while maintaining communication with the Engineering Manager and other departments.
Qualifications / Experience
- 2–5 years of manufacturing engineering, engineering technician, industrial maintenance or related hands-on manufacturing experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting ability.
- Experience with manufacturing equipment and production processes.
- Experience with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
- Ability to diagnose problems, determine root causes and develop practical solutions.
- Experience designing or modifying fixtures, tooling or equipment is preferred.
- CAD experience; Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D modeling software is a plus.
- PLC, controls or automation experience is a plus.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to work effectively with Maintenance, Production, Quality and Engineering.
- Strong communication skills.
- Mechanical, electrical, manufacturing engineering or technical degree required.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys solving problems and building things, not someone who wants to spend their entire day behind a computer.
You should be comfortable going onto the production floor, talking with operators and process technicians, looking at a machine that isn't working correctly, determining what is wrong and helping develop and implement the solution.
At the same time, you should have the engineering and technical ability to help design fixtures and tooling, modify equipment, develop manufacturing improvements and assist with the implementation of new equipment and processes.
This position does not have direct reports and is not a supervisory role. The individual will serve as a technical resource to Maintenance, Production and Quality and will be expected to take ownership of assigned problems and projects through completion.
