The Patient Access Representative plays a vital role in creating a positive first impression for our patients by delivering compassionate, patient- centered service. This position is responsible for accurately registering patients, verifying insurance, obtaining required documentation, collecting applicable payments and ensuring a seamless registration experience.  The representative serves as the first point of contact for patients and families, providing exceptional customer service during stressful and urgent situations.

As a Patient Access Representative, a typical day might include: 

  • Performs all duties related to pre-registration, registration, financial clearance, and scheduling
  • Ensures accurate demographic and insurance data, collects patient liabilities, supports billing accuracy, and provides front-line customer service,
  • Ensures patients are oriented to the registration process and communicates operational issues to leadership as needed
  • Answer phones courteously and promptly
  • Verify insurance coverage, obtain authorizations, referrals, and precertifications,
  • Accurately enter patient demographic and insurance information,
  • Collect copays and fees; provide receipts
  • Ensure completion and scanning of required documents consent, rights, directives
  • Greet and assist patients and visitors in a timely, professional manner
  • Schedule appointments, register patients, and process discharges,

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Preferred:

  • Two to three years of hospital admitting, registration, or billing experience
  • Knowledge of insurance requirements and medical terminology
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations, problem solve, and interpret data
  • Strong customer service and communication skills,
