THE POSITION

As a Transportation Community Relations Coordinator 2 for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, you will help lead the flow of information that keeps communities informed and confident in District 8-0 projects. This position serves as the District 8-0 Press Officer and allows you to collaborate with media partners, civic leaders, and the public to highlight key accomplishments and safety programs. You will build strong relationships and support effective outreach across many communication platforms. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on leading communication efforts that share District 8-0 transportation updates, safety actions, and project information with the public and news media. It combines public outreach, message development, media coordination, and guidance of communication staff. As the District 8-0 Press Officer, you will perform the following duties:


  • Media Coordination: Serve as the District 8 Press Officer and act as spokesperson while managing relationships with news outlets and public officials
  • Public Outreach: Develop and support citizen involvement activities and prepare materials such as advertisements and publicity programs for community engagement
  • Content Development: Prepare correspondence, website updates, social media posts, and Letters to the Editor to communicate district initiatives and viewpoints
  • Safety Promotion: Promote driver performance improvement efforts by coordinating with police, schools, volunteer groups, and community organizations
  • Project Communication: Work with technical staff to explain project impacts to communities and develop methods for presenting key information
  • Staff Supervision: Supervise a community relations team responsible for outreach, safety messaging, and media coordination

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $60,538.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Transportation Community Relations Coordinator 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of public relations experience promoting programs through mass media, or community organizing experience; and a bachelor's degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
