Job Title: Oncology Medical Assistant

Job Description

This role provides high-quality clinical support in a fast-paced oncology practice by rooming patients, recording vital information, and ensuring exam and treatment rooms are fully stocked and organized. The Medical Assistant focuses on delivering excellent patient care and customer service while supporting providers with accurate documentation in electronic medical record systems.

Responsibilities

  • Room 50–70 patients per day in a fast-paced oncology clinic, ensuring efficient patient flow.
  • Record patient vital signs, including manual blood pressure when needed, as well as height, weight, allergies, and medication changes with a high level of accuracy.
  • Prepare patients for visits by confirming medical history, current medications, and any changes since the last appointment.
  • Stock exam and treatment rooms regularly and maintain adequate inventory of medical supplies, ordering additional supplies as needed.
  • Support providers by performing clinical tasks related to patient intake and vitals; work as a general front-end Medical Assistant rather than being tied to a specific provider.
  • Use electronic medical record and electronic health record systems to document patient information and clinical activities in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Apply medical terminology and basic administrative skills to support clinic operations and patient care processes.
  • Provide professional and compassionate customer service to patients and families, helping them feel informed and comfortable throughout their visit.
  • Collaborate with clinic staff to maintain a positive, team-oriented environment and contribute to team-building efforts and clinic culture initiatives.
  • Travel between designated clinic locations during the week as scheduled and follow reimbursement procedures if asked to travel outside assigned clinics.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification is required.
  • Proficiency in rooming a high volume of patients, typically 50–70 patients per day.
  • Ability to accurately measure and record manual blood pressure, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced clinical environment, preferably in oncology.
  • Strong medical assisting skills, including patient rooming and basic clinical support.
  • Ability to use electronic medical record (EMR) and electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation.
  • Solid understanding of medical terminology.
  • Good customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients.
  • Basic administrative skills to support clinic operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in oncology settings is highly valuable.
  • Bilingual language skills are a plus.
  • Phlebotomy experience is beneficial.
  • Ability to adapt to different clinic locations and work collaboratively with multiple provider teams.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with a high patient volume.
  • Experience in dermatology, ENT, or weight loss-focused practices may not align well with this role’s requirements.

Work Environment

This position is based in an outpatient oncology clinic environment that is fast-paced and patient-focused. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or until the last patient is seen, with no weekend shifts. The role functions as a general front-end Medical Assistant, primarily rooming patients and taking vitals for various providers rather than being assigned to a single provider. The schedule includes working at one clinic location on Mondays and Fridays and a second clinic location from Tuesday through Thursday, with access to reimbursement if asked to travel outside assigned clinics. The clinic uses electronic medical record and electronic health record systems and relies on standard medical equipment for vital signs and patient intake. The culture emphasizes long-term opportunity, strong teamwork, and an open-door policy, with team-building exercises and holiday celebrations that promote a supportive and collaborative atmosphere. Benefits may include paid time off accrual, retirement plan options with employer match, and multiple insurance plan choices, contributing to a stable and engaging work environment.
