\n Job Summary:\n
\n The surgical technologist works under the direct supervision of an RN in the operating room environment. Must possess strong clinical knowledge and skills regarding operating room procedures. Must be highly motivated and self-directed with a positive attitude and good communication skills. Wiling to have flexible work schedules and duties, which will include ancillary duties such as cleaning rooms between cases, stocking room, helping in the central sterile area and have a proven record to expedite room turnover, good organizational skills and an understanding of importance of teamwork in a fast-paced environment.\n

\n Job Responsibilities:\n
\n --25% Safety: The patient is free of signs and symptoms of acquired physical injury:\n
\n -Actively participates in the time-out procedure. \n
\n -Labels all solutions and medications with the name and strength of drug before it is transferred to the sterile field. \n
\n -Counts according to policy with no deviations except in emergency situations. \n
\n -Follows policy for the safe handling of specimens, implants and explants. \n
\n -Checks packaging or containers for integrity to promote aseptic technique.\n
\n --25% Displays knowledge of surgical technologist role:\n
\n -Knowledge of procedures and instrumentation and equipment needed for the procedure. \n
\n -Scrubbed and in room before patient enters room. \n
\n -Efficient in set-up for the procedure. \n
\n -Knowledge of suture and supplies appropriate for the procedure. \n
\n -Maintains and protects sterile field during procedure. \n
\n -Demonstrates knowledge of sterile techniques with actions.\n
\n --25% Contributes to the department and the entire OR team by taking personal responsibility and accountability:\n
\n -Practice safe working habits by following policies on the safe use of safety items provided as PPE, blade holders, neutral zone and sharps containers. \n
\n -Communicate effectively with other team members. \n
\n -Follows chain of command. \n
\n -Correct problems on the spot you may encounter if it is in the best interest of the patient and within your control to correct. \n
\n -Completes required assignments and competencies on time. \n
\n -Be willing to precept and help peers and students when needed.\n
\n -Return room to ready state at end of the case.\n
\n -Utilize free time to help others who are busy.\n
\n -Report to the control desk as soon as you realize you are not assigned and ask what you need.\n
\n -Help with the cleaning and stocking of the room.\n
\n --25% Delivers care in a manner that impacts the entire healthcare environment:\n
\n -Opens suture and supplies on an as needed basis. \n
\n -Practices good care of instruments and equipment by using fluids and enzyme cleaner and return instruments in trays and containers. \n
\n -Reports any broken or unusable instruments or equipment to the nurse leader. \n
\n -Reports any changes in resource maps to the nurse leader.\n

\n Required Skills & Experience:\n
\n -One (1) year of experience as Scrub Tech or training.\n
\n -Less than one (1) year experience.\n
