Job Description
Mass General Brigham Medical Group is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Internal Medicine Physician to join our multidisciplinary practice in Danvers, Massachusetts as a Site Medical Director.
\nReporting to the Regional Medical Director, the Primary Care Site Medical Director will help guide clinical operations, support quality improvement initiatives, mentor providers, and collaborate with administrative leadership to ensure the daily delivery of high quality, patient centered care. A core focus of the role is supporting clinician satisfaction, professional fulfillment, and wellbeing by fostering a positive practice culture, promoting effective teamwork, and supporting sustainable clinical practice.
\nThe Primary Care Site Medical Director serves as the clinical leader for the assigned primary care practice(s). The Medical Director is responsible for ensuring high quality, patient centered, safe, and efficient care delivery. The role provides oversight for clinical quality and safety programs, supports operational management, guides and oversees provider performance and professionalism, and partners with administrative leadership to implement organizational priorities, with attention to reducing burnout risk and supporting a healthy work environment for clinicians.
\nThe Medical Director works in partnership with the Practice Manager/Practice Administrator. This leader has the primary responsibility for ensuring execution of the system wide quality and operational priorities as well as the overall performance of the unit.
\nPrincipal Duties and Responsibilities
\nOperations
\n- \n
- Serves as first point of contact to address front line physician/provider or clinical patient issues \n
- Collaborates regularly with primary care practice manager to improve quality, patient experience and access. \n
- Facilitates monthly (at minimum) practice meetings, with support from Regional Medical Director as needed/desired. Collaborates with Practice Manager regarding the content and execution of these meetings. \n
- Attends and/or facilitates daily huddles \n
- In collaboration with the Regional Director of Operations, Practice Manager(s), and supervising staff, contributes to the communication with, and engagement of, onsite clinical staff including but not limited to clinicians, RNs, LPNs, MAs. \n
- Remains situationally aware of site level budget discussions and planning. \n
- Assures adequate clinical coverage during business hours. \n
- Serves as supervising physician for Physician Assistants and NPs at their site, or ensures that the supervising physician (assigned by them) is reviewing prescriptive practice as expected by system/protocol. \n
Quality, operational efficiency and High Reliability:

- This leader is responsible for promoting, supporting, and leading a culture of safety and quality improvement and for the execution of system and site goals within that practice, and will be responsible for implementing and conducting HRO rounds. \n
- Undergoes training in high reliability and process improvement and serves as the local expert and champion on high reliability principles within the unit. \n
- Supports leadership in presentation of unit performance to stakeholder groups. \n
- Serves as a physician leader responsible for executing any systemic performance improvements. \n
- Along with practice manager, reviews safety events. \n
- Creates and maintain harmonious and effective work units - ones that foster communication, teamwork, cooperation, flexibility, respect, good morale, safety, and diversity. Demonstrates professional behavior and engages in an effective, collaborative, and congenial manner with other departmental and institutional members as part of a multidisciplinary team of caregivers. \n
Patience Experience

- Champions, leads and executes MGB patient experience initiatives within the practice. \n
- Ensures that patient complaints that are identified through patient experience surveys or patient family relations are evaluated and handled appropriately within the unit and in conjunction with other stakeholders as appropriate (e.g., safety and risk). \n
Health Equity

- Assists in implementation of system wide health equity activities at the practice that align with MGB For Every Patient Equity strategy. \n
Clinician Recruitment and Performance
\n- \n
- Partners with Talent Acquisition, Regional Medical Director, and Physician Organization on the recruitment and interview process for new physician, APP, and clinical hires. \n
- Mentors new physicians and APPs joining the practice. \n
- Manages professionalism and knowledge/skills/ability concerns including FPPE and IDP in conjunction with primary care leadership and the OCMO. \n
- Responsible for driving culture and retention of clinical staff. \n
- Performs annual reviews (OPPE) on clinicians incorporating quality metrics, efficiency metrics, staff and patient feedback. \n
- Performs other related duties as assigned. \n
Qualifications and Skills Required
\n- \n
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine with Active License and Board Certification, currently credentialed and in good standing. \n
- Minimum two years of experience in clinical practice. \n
- A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible leadership in clinical setting or large health care organization with proven leadership and management skills preferred. \n
- Experience in quality improvement, safety event evaluation, health equity, and patient relations/ service recovery preferred. \n
- Exemplary interpersonal communication skills required to interact effectively with senior management and physicians on sensitive issues. \n

- After-Hours Call Program: Physicians are not responsible for after-hours call coverage. \n
- Virtual Clinic Support (VCS): A centralized team of advanced practice providers work remotely to manage clinical tasks that traditionally fall to primary care physicians, including managing clinical inboxes, test results, patient messages, medication refills and routine patient follow-up. \n
- Team-Based Approach to Care: Our interdisciplinary team includes Social Work, Behavioral Health specialists, and a dedicated Medical Assistant to ensure comprehensive patient support. \n
