Our client seeks a Computer Facility Operations Technician to support data center facility operations, infrastructure monitoring, asset management, equipment logistics, and technical support activities in a federal environment. The role provides hands-on support across data center environments, including installation and troubleshooting for system and network infrastructure, DCIM monitoring, environmental controls, physical security coordination, equipment inventory, and support for installations, relocations, and decommissioning efforts. The position requires attention to detail, professionalism, teamwork, and the ability to support mission-critical operations.
This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. Rate: $25.00 to $30.00/hr. w2
Responsibilities:- Provide technical support within data center environments, including system and network infrastructure installation and troubleshooting.
- Monitor DCIM systems, environmental controls, access controls, and physical security systems.
- Coordinate with Data Center Managers, Facilities staff, House Offices, and vendors.
- Support server and equipment installations, relocations, decommissioning efforts, and related facility activities.
- Maintain accurate inventory records for servers, equipment, serialized items, and data center assets.
- Partner with Asset Management teams to conduct inventories and reconcile discrepancies.
- Receive and inspect incoming shipments, verify quantities and documentation, coordinate returns, and report issues.
- Maintain clean, organized, safe, and secure warehouse and storage environments.
- Conduct recurring physical inventory activities using scanner technology.
- Track serialized equipment and maintain records for audits.
- Maintain current diagrams of network components and fiber optic cabling.
- Maintain accurate logs, documentation, and operational reports.
- Recommend and support process improvements and operational best practices.
- Perform data center housekeeping tasks.
- Deliver customer service to stakeholders and vendors.
- Participate in special projects and additional duties as assigned.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Data Center Operations, Facility Operations, Computer Operations, or related technical environments.
- Technical background supporting computer systems and infrastructure.
- Experience with DCIM tools, environmental monitoring, and network cabling.
- Experience supporting inventory control, asset tracking, and equipment lifecycle management.
- Ability to travel between data center locations throughout the Washington, DC area.
- Ability to provide 24x7 on-call support and work shifts when required.
- Communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Experience supporting federal government environments preferred.
- Experience in asset management, logistics, warehouse operations, or inventory management preferred.
- Familiarity with data center facility standards, physical security processes, and environmental monitoring systems preferred.
- Experience maintaining network and fiber infrastructure documentation preferred.
- Desired skills include DCIM, asset management, inventory control, network cabling, fiber optics, environmental monitoring, physical security systems, logistics and warehouse operations, technical troubleshooting, and documentation and reporting.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
