Job Description
We are looking for a Patient Access Specialist to support front-end patient services in Virginia. This contract to hire role is ideal for someone who enjoys creating a welcoming experience while handling registration, scheduling, and insurance-related tasks in a busy healthcare setting. The role requires strong attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to communicate clearly with patients, visitors, and internal teams.
Responsibilities:
• Greet patients and visitors courteously and help create an organized, service-focused check-in experience.
• Complete patient intake by entering and updating demographic information with a high degree of accuracy.
• Confirm insurance coverage and obtain required details to support timely and correct processing.
• Coordinate appointment scheduling, send confirmations, and assist with follow-up communication as needed.
• Receive patient payments, collect co-pays, and reconcile daily financial activity according to established procedures.
• Partner with clinical and administrative staff to keep patient movement efficient and reduce delays.
• Respond to questions or concerns with empathy and escalate complex issues to the appropriate team members.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and follow all applicable privacy and compliance standards.
• Previous experience in patient registration, patient access, or a similar medical front-desk role, or general experience in customer service/admin work.
• Working knowledge of appointment scheduling and patient intake processes.
• Experience verifying medical insurance information accurately and efficiently.
• Comfortable assisting patients in person and over the phone with professionalism and empathy.
• Strong data entry skills and careful attention to detail when managing records.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Commitment to protecting confidential information and following healthcare privacy guidelines.
