Registered Nurse – Tour Coordinator
Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, NM
Join us on a direct assignment supporting the Indian Health Service (IHS) Nursing Department at Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, New Mexico. We're seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to serve as Tour Coordinator — overseeing hospital operations, staffing, and patient flow across shifts — with a competitive pay package and a clear path through option-period renewals.
Assignment Details
● Facility: Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC) — Shiprock, NM
● Department: Nursing — Tour Coordinator (charge/house-supervisor role)
● Role: Oversee patient care coordination, staff management, crisis response, and cross-department communication during assigned shifts
● Schedule: Rotating shift — days, evenings, nights, and weekends, including holidays
● Contract length: 6-month base assignment (09/21/2026–03/20/2027), with up to four additional 6-month option periods through 03/20/2029 (potential 30-month total)
● Guaranteed hours: 1,040 hours per 6-month period

Rate based on a 40-hour average work week. Per diem is tax-advantaged and aligned to the FY2026 GSA lodging and meals rate for San Juan County, NM.
Requirements
● Minimum 36 months of nursing experience, including at least 2 years specifically in a Tour Coordinator, charge nurse, or house supervisor role
● Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
● Current, valid, unrestricted RN license (U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory)
● Current BLS certification required; current ACLS certification also required (American Heart Association)
● Experience with performance improvement projects, evidence-based practice, and data collection/analysis
● Up-to-date immunizations (MMR, Hepatitis B series or declination, varicella, Tdap, annual TB screening, annual flu vaccination Oct 1–Mar 31)
● Ability to pass a federal background investigation and fitness-for-duty medical evaluation
● Strong crisis management, staff supervision, and interdepartmental communication skills
● Respectful, culturally aware approach to serving American Indian and Alaska Native patients and communities
About the Assignment
This is a non-personal services assignment supporting the Indian Health Service's mission to provide accessible, culturally responsive care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. As Tour Coordinator, you'll serve as the primary point of contact for clinical and administrative issues across departments during your assigned shift, helping ensure safe, efficient, well-coordinated patient care hospital-wide.
