REGISTERED NURSE — MEDICAL SURGICAL UNIT

Night Shift  |  Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, NM

Join us on a direct assignment supporting the Indian Health Service (IHS) at Northern Navajo Medical Center, a 60-bed acute care hospital serving the Navajo Nation in Shiprock, New Mexico. We're seeking experienced Medical-Surgical RNs for a night-shift assignment with a competitive pay package and a clear path through option-period renewals.

Assignment Details

•      Facility: Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC) — Shiprock, NM

•      Unit: Medical Surgical Unit — inpatient acute/chronic disease, surgical, and palliative care

•      Shift: Night shift, 12-hour tours (1800–0730, with a 30-minute unpaid meal break)

•      Schedule: Rotates 4 shifts one week / 3 shifts the next, with rotating weekends (work one, off one)

•      Contract length: 6-month base assignment, with up to four additional 6-month option periods (potential 30-month total)

•      Guaranteed hours: 1,040 hours per 6-month period

Blended Hourly Rate (est., 40-hr week)

Rate based on a 40-hour average work week. Per diem is tax-advantaged and aligned to the GSA lodging and meals rate for San Juan County, NM.

Requirements

•      Minimum 36 months of RN experience, including at least 2 years in Medical-Surgical nursing

•      Current, valid, unrestricted RN license (U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory)

•      Current BLS certification required; ACLS strongly recommended

•      Up-to-date immunizations (MMR, Hepatitis B series or declination, varicella, Tdap, annual TB screening, annual flu vaccination Oct 1–Mar 31)

•      Ability to pass a federal background investigation and fitness-for-duty medical evaluation

•      Comfort with core Med-Surg competencies: telemetry, IV pumps, PICC/central line care, CIWA protocol, EHR/bar-code medication administration, and more

•      Respectful, culturally aware approach to serving American Indian and Alaska Native patients and communities

About the Assignment

This is a non-personal services assignment supporting the Indian Health Service's mission to provide accessible, culturally responsive care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Nurses work under the technical direction of NNMC's Supervisory Clinical Nurse and may occasionally float to a like unit within the facility.
