DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports daily meal preparation, food service, and sanitation work within the veterans home. The role helps ensure safe and efficient dining operations for residents. As a Food Service Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:

• Meal Preparation: Use kitchen equipment to prepare and portion food items
• Diet Support: Interpret diet information and assemble trays to meet resident needs
• Tray Delivery: Transport and deliver meal trays and refill dining items as needed
• Sanitation Tasks: Clean equipment, dining areas, floors, and walls to maintain safety
• Record Keeping: Document food use, temperatures, and meal counts on required forms
• Holiday Assistance: Help prepare food or decorations for special events

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM with a 30-minute lunch. You will work rotating days and weekends.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Requirements:

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

• Willingness to work in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania
• Willingness to work full-time from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM with rotating days and weekends to be determined
• Food service experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, hospital, restaurant, or other food service operation
• Work experience interacting with patients, residents, or customers while serving food or cleaning in patient/resident rooms or in a dining room setting
• Work experience with food safety and sanitation in a dietary department

Legal Requirements:

• A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
• This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
  • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
