DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role focuses on supporting enteric disease investigations and contributing to public health surveillance activities. You will gather important information from patients and assist the team with tasks that help maintain accurate records and support outbreak response. As an Enteric Intern, you will perform the following duties:

• Patient Interviews: Call patients to collect health information and record exposures relevant to enteric illnesses
• Outbreak Support: Assist with investigations related to enteric disease clusters and outbreaks
• Data Management: Enter information into databases and help maintain accurate records for surveillance activities
• Team Participation: Join weekly meetings and support staff with routine tasks as needed
• Emergency Response: Support public health emergency assignments when required, sometimes under challenging conditions
• Health Equity Awareness: Identify needs of vulnerable populations and help advocate for resources and communication methods that support equitable health outcomes

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Part-time internship beginning in September 2026 and continuing for one year or until graduation.
• Work hours are flexible and will be scheduled 15-20 hours per week.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

• Current full-time enrollment in a bachelor's degree program or higher.
• Good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher).
• Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university.

Additional Requirements:

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
