CNC Machining Supervisor


The CNC Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the CNC machining department, ensuring the production of high-precision aerospace components that meet quality, safety, and delivery requirements. This role is responsible for leading machinists and operators, optimizing production efficiency, maintaining compliance with aerospace standards, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities


  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of CNC machinists, operators, and setup technicians.
  • Assign work based on production schedules, machine capacity, and employee skill levels.
  • Ensure all aerospace components meet engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Monitor machine performance, production output, and quality metrics to achieve productivity goals.
  • Verify proper setup of CNC mills, lathes, and multi-axis machining centers.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and programming issues to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Planning departments to resolve production challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace quality standards such as AS9100, customer specifications, and internal procedures.
  • Conduct first-piece inspections and ensure in-process inspections are completed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate CNC machinists and operators.
  • Perform employee performance reviews, coaching, and disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Monitor tooling inventory and coordinate preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, scrap reduction, and cycle time improvements.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives including 5S, Kaizen, and waste reduction activities.


Required Qualifications


  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or technical certification preferred.
  • 5–10 years of CNC machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • 2–5 years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC milling, turning, and multi-axis machining.
  • Ability to interpret GD&T, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and CMMs.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Skills


  • Knowledge of G-code and CNC programming.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software (Mastercam, NX, GibbsCAM, etc.).
  • Familiarity with aerospace materials including titanium, Inconel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
  • Understanding of SPC, Root Cause Analysis, and Corrective Actions.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience.
  • Ability to manage KPIs and production metrics.
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing is preferred.
