Deputy Clerk

Salary: $16.65 per hour, plus excellent benefits
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Position Summary

The Deputy Clerk provides professional and efficient clerical and administrative support while serving the general public and assisting with the day-to-day operations of the department. This position requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to establish positive working relationships with the public, county departments, and outside contacts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answer and direct telephone calls in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Receive, process, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Perform cash-handling duties and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Enter data accurately and efficiently into computer systems.
  • Perform typing, filing, and general clerical duties with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Utilize computer software, calculators, and other office equipment effectively.
  • Create and maintain Excel spreadsheets and other administrative documents.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and assist with maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Prepare and process invoices.
  • Balance and reconcile credit card payments.
  • Assist with payroll distribution and related administrative duties.
  • Perform daily balancing and verify the accuracy of financial transactions.
  • Provide courteous and professional assistance to members of the general public.
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with the public, county departments, and outside contacts.
  • Promote a positive attitude toward all county departments and provide professional customer service.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least one (1) year of clerical or office experience involving general office procedures.
  • Demonstrated typing ability with accuracy, speed, and minimal errors.
  • Ability to operate a 10-key calculator by touch with accuracy.
  • Ability to file alphabetically with minimal errors.
  • Legible handwriting and strong attention to detail.
  • Basic knowledge of computer software and office applications.
  • Ability to create and maintain Excel spreadsheets.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and financial transactions responsibly.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public, coworkers, county departments, and outside contacts.
