Job Description

The Seasonal Animal Health Technician plays a vital role within an animal shelter, providing essential care, health monitoring, and support services to ensure the wellbeing of shelter animals. This position involves direct interaction with animals, assisting veterinarians and senior staff, and supporting facility operations with potential for a full-time transition.


Seasonal employees will be hired for a duration of 6 months, with the possibility of permanent employment contingent upon a successful evaluation. Seasonal employees will work 28-32 hours per week and must be available to work on weekends and holidays.


The Ocean County Animal Facilities are located in Jackson, NJ, and Manahawkin, NJ. Seasonal employees will be primarily based at the facility closer to their residence but may be asked to work at the other facility one or two days per week.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care and monitoring of animals in the shelter
  • Collect samples and assist with lab testing procedures
  • Administer medications as directed by veterinary personnel
  • Sanitize equipment and maintain clean animal housing areas
  • Maintain accurate health and treatment records
  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members
  • Support facility operations and assist with educational outreach programs
  • Assist with euthanasia in cases of health issues, aggression, or unsafe adoption scenarios
  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians, senior technicians, and facility managers

 

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Veterinary Technology or related field

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years of experience in animal health care
  • Proficiency in animal handling and basic first aid
  • Strong record keeping and sanitation skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities
  • High attention to detail in care and documentation
