Diesel Mechanic – Garbage Trucks & Street Sweepers

Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Pay: Based on experience

Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair a fleet of garbage trucks, street sweepers, and other municipal-style vehicles and equipment. This position is primarily focused on chassis and equipment repair rather than internal engine work.

The ideal candidate will have experience working on medium- or heavy-duty trucks and be comfortable troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, brake, suspension, and electrical issues.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on garbage trucks, street sweepers, and other fleet vehicles
  • Diagnose and repair chassis-related mechanical issues
  • Service and repair air brake and hydraulic brake systems
  • Repair suspension, steering, wheel-end, and driveline components
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, hoses, cylinders, pumps, and related components
  • Diagnose basic electrical issues including wiring, lighting, switches, and connections
  • Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, filters, lubrication, fluid checks, and inspections
  • Inspect vehicles for worn or damaged components and make necessary repairs
  • Repair or replace components such as brakes, bearings, shocks, hoses, belts, and related parts
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs and preventative maintenance performed
  • Keep work areas and tools clean, organized, and safe

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Fleet Mechanic, Truck Mechanic, or similar role preferred
  • Experience working on medium- or heavy-duty trucks strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of chassis, brake, suspension, steering, hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems and determine appropriate repairs
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver's license preferred

This role does not primarily involve internal engine repair or engine rebuilds. Candidates with strong truck, fleet, hydraulic, or chassis repair experience are encouraged to apply.
