Electrical Superintendent (Hourly) - Per Diem & Incentive Pay!

Walker Engineering is seeking an experienced Electrical Superintendent to lead large and complex commercial construction projects. This position is responsible for field operations, workforce leadership, project scheduling, safety, quality, productivity, and coordination with subcontractors and project stakeholders.

The Superintendent ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and according to Walker’s quality standards.

Primary Responsibilities

Safety

• Lead the implementation of Walker’s safety program and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and site-specific requirements.
• Enforce safety requirements for employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
• Participate in incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are completed and documented.
• Coordinate site inspections involving OSHA or other government agencies.
• Ensure daily Task Hazard Analyses are completed before work begins.
• Maintain proper housekeeping and secure the worksite at the end of each shift.

Field Leadership

• Provide leadership and direction to general foremen, foremen, field employees, and subcontractors.
• Monitor field productivity and ensure assigned work is completed efficiently.
• Communicate project expectations, work plans, schedules, and potential challenges.
• Resolve construction issues involving productivity, material shortages, work sequencing, and trade coordination.
• Assess employee and foreman performance and provide coaching and development.
• Maintain professional relationships with owners, general contractors, inspectors, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
• Accompany inspectors during project reviews.

Planning and Scheduling

• Attend preconstruction, construction, progress, and technical meetings.
• Develop and coordinate production sequences with other trades and subcontractors.
• Maintain an accurate three-week project forecast.
• Confirm that labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors are scheduled to support project requirements.
• Review RFI logs and identify issues that could affect the project schedule.
• Coordinate with engineering, estimating, logistics, purchasing, quality control, safety, and project management.
• Keep the project manager informed of schedule risks, field conditions, and unforeseen problems.
• Maintain current progress schedules and assist with project completion and labor-cost reporting.

Quality and Cost Control

• Ensure all work meets project drawings, specifications, contractual requirements, and Walker quality standards.
• Implement work processes that improve productivity and installation quality.
• Monitor subcontractor performance and compliance with contractual requirements.
• Review inspection reports and document the correction of deficiencies.
• Ensure change-order work is properly documented and reflected on as-built drawings.
• Maintain accurate and current as-built documentation.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Complete the Superintendent’s Daily Report.
• Review timecards and code invoices.
• Document additional work and back charges.
• Maintain accurate project records, schedules, and as-built drawings.
• Complete startup and tool or equipment transfer documentation.
• Assist the project manager with percent-complete calculations for monthly invoicing and job-cost reporting.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Active Texas Journeyman Electrician license.
• At least five years of experience in a construction supervisory position.
• Advanced knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices.
• OSHA 30 certification or the ability to obtain it within six months of employment.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and project scopes.
• Strong understanding of electrical construction methods, scheduling, productivity, and cost control.
• Ability to coordinate work with other construction trades.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and conflict-management abilities.
• Ability to complete required administrative documentation accurately and on time.
• Proficiency with computers and construction-related technology.
• Strong time-management, organization, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
• Willingness to accept accountability and conduct business with honesty and integrity.
• Ability to satisfy all jobsite-specific access requirements without outstanding restrictions involving Walker’s general contractors, owners, customers, or project partners.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in active construction environments and varying weather conditions.
• Ability to access all areas of a construction site.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, climb, and use stairs and ladders throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift, carry, and handle materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to read blueprints and visually understand two-dimensional and three-dimensional construction layouts.
• Ability to safely operate or travel in passenger and commercial vehicles when required.
