CNC Mill Machinists play a crucial role in the manufacturing process of aerospace components. Their job involves operating and programming computer numerical control (CNC) machines that use 5 Axis to produce precise and complex parts for aircraft and spacecraft.
Job Overview:
The Aerospace 5 Axis CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC machines with five-axis capabilities to produce aerospace components with high precision and quality. They work with a variety of materials, such as metals and composites, and collaborate with engineers and other team members to ensure the production of components that meet aerospace industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine Setup: Set up and prepare CNC machines for production runs, ensuring proper tooling, fixturing, and programming.
- Programming: Create and optimize CNC programs using CAM software to achieve precise and accurate machining of aerospace components.
- Operation: Operate CNC machines with five-axis capabilities, monitoring the machining process to ensure quality and making adjustments as needed.
- Quality Control: Perform in-process and final inspections of machined parts to ensure they meet specified tolerances and quality standards.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues related to tooling, machine setup, and programming to maintain smooth production processes.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, designers, and other team members to understand project requirements and provide input on design for manufacturability.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of machine settings, tool changes, and production parameters for traceability and future reference.
Safety:
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical education or apprenticeship in CNC machining is a plus.
- Proven experience as a CNC machinist, with specific expertise in 5-axis machining for aerospace applications.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for programming CNC machines.
- Strong understanding of aerospace materials, machining processes, and industry standards.
- Attention to detail and precision in executing machining tasks.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with multi-axis machining centers.
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Familiarity with aerospace quality management systems.
