Workers' Compensation Attorney
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Workers' Compensation Attorney to represent injured workers in administrative proceedings, settlements, and litigation. The attorney will manage a caseload of workers' compensation matters, advise and advocate for clients, prepare and file pleadings, conduct discovery, and appear at hearings and trials. The role requires strong litigation skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to client service to secure fair compensation and benefits for injured workers.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise and counsel injured workers on eligibility, benefits, and legal options under workers' compensation and related personal injury laws.
- Evaluate new matters, investigate facts, gather evidence, and develop legal strategies to maximize client recovery.
- Draft and file pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, and other legal documents; ensure timely compliance with filing deadlines and procedural requirements.
- Prepare for and represent clients at administrative hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials; present testimony, examine witnesses, and argue legal issues effectively.
- Negotiate settlements with employers, insurers, and opposing counsel to obtain favorable outcomes for clients while protecting their long-term interests.
- Coordinate with medical providers, vocational experts, and other professionals to support claims and document injuries, disability, and needed care.
- Manage a busy caseload, maintain detailed case files and client records, and use case management systems to track deadlines and tasks.
- Provide clear, compassionate communication to clients about case status, potential outcomes, and legal options; uphold client confidentiality and ethical obligations.
- Stay current on workers' compensation statutes, regulations, and case law; contribute to continuous improvement of firm practices and client services.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Admission to practice in Illinois
- 1+ year of experience practicing workers' compensation law, including administrative hearings and litigation; personal injury experience preferred.
- Proven litigation skills with courtroom experience, including presenting cases at hearings or trials and examining witnesses.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical abilities; comfortable drafting pleadings, motions, and settlement documents.
- Excellent negotiation skills and a track record of achieving favorable settlements for clients.
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet strict deadlines with attention to detail.
- Excellent client-service and communication skills; able to explain complex legal issues in plain language and show empathy for injured workers.
- Familiarity with workers' compensation systems, insurance processes, medical records, and vocational evaluations.
